I had a very productive September and managed to finish 12 novels, 3 graphic novels and a number of short stories. Much of this was from the 2023 Hugo Awards ballot, and I got my votes in before the end of the month! #hugo2023

I loved this version of Supergirl's story from Tom King, and adored the gorgeous artwork by Bilquis Evely. In this Hugo-nominated work, the story is told from the point-of-view of a girl who seeks Supergirl's help in avenging the murder of her father.

In this 12th book from the excellent Hugo-nominated October Daye series, Toby is again searching for a missing child, but this time, it's her own. I started this book during the last #BacklistReadathon but just finished it now.

I loved this 2023 nominee for the Hugo Best Novella award. It seems at first a fairy-tale-like fantasy novel but turns out to be quite different, as secrets about the world are slowly revealed to both the protagonist and reader. It's also told in an unusual second-person voice.

This retelling of the Snow White story has been nominated for 2023 Hugo Best Novella award. It was a low pick for me. It was enjoyable and had a lot of humour but I've been reading too many fairy-tale retellings lately.

I loved this 3rd book in The Locked Tomb series, though I'm not sure I understood everything that happened (as in, who's alive, who's dead, and who's in whose body). This novel and the series got 2023 Hugo Award nominations.

BTW, the first half of the book felt like Anne of Green Gables with necromancers. Nona even has braids on the cover!

I really wanted to like this Hugo-nominated futuristic take on Dashiell's Nick and Nora characters. Usually, I love sci-fi/mystery combos, and I've liked several of Kowal's other books. But I didn't care for the characters and the tone was too cutesy for my taste.

I'd read this graphic novel because it was on the Hugo Best Graphic Story nominee list this year and probably wouldn't have picked it up otherwise. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I had been familiar with the video game it's based on.

A Hugo Best Novel nominee, this story provides an interesting take on the fairy godmother character. I always enjoy books by T. Kingfisher, a.k.a. Ursula Vernon.

This retelling of H. G. Wells's novel has received Best Novel nominations for both the Hugo and Aurora SFF awards this year. It started off slow but the second half was fast-paced and exciting, with a number of plot turns that I didn't expect.
