Beatriz Williams was my choice this month for the #BacklistReadathon

I wanted more of the 1998 story and less of the prohibition story on this one, but it was still enjoyable. I‘ll probably read the sequel at some point.

TheBookgeekFrau If you read the next two books, you'll find the prohibition story figures heavily into the 'modern' story. I loved all three Wicked books!! 💞 7mo

Finished this up on audio today. I enjoyed this historical fiction set in Prohibition NYC. The little bit of magical realism in the present day storyline seemed unnecessary. Looking forward to the sequel but not sure it will be anytime soon. So many books, so little time!

For some reason I thought this was going to be set in 1920s Chicago which would have been just fine with me. I‘m delighted to find its set in 1920s NYC and I‘m flying through it so far. I love when a book sucks me in from the get go.

Jennifer3 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I have several of hers but haven‘t read them yet, but read the WWII book she wrote with two other authors and it was so good! 2y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Jennifer3 I‘ve read almost all of them. The only one I didn‘t care for was The Golden Hour. I may give it another chance!! 2y

Why I keep trying to read Fitzgerald, I will never understand. It‘s that idea that he‘s this classic author and I love classical fiction so I should be able to appreciate his work. It‘s not for me; I can‘t get passed his depiction of women. The only thing I can say is he knows how to paint a setting, I feel like I‘m actually there. Not a great start to #bookspin, so hopefully the next one is better 🤣

TheAromaofBooks Fitzgerald doesn't work for me, either. I know so many people love Gatsby, but I genuinely hate that book haha 2y
