Never posted that I finished this! Being a Chicana I loved reading a book that wove in so much of my culture and places familiar to me. I‘m using this for the #GothicHorror prompt for #Booked2020

The Torres sisters dream of escape. Escaping their neglectful, needy father and their San Antonio neighborhood expectations, until the oldest, Ana, falls to her death.

I was always weary of magical realism books, after reading a few I really love them. This one did not disappoint. There is a lot going on with the sisters and this story deals with it all: trauma, grief, female empowerment and ghost. Great writing done in each sisters POV.

After several false starts, I‘m going to give #AmericanDirt another go. If for no other reason but to form my own opinion. But I do have some #LatinxAuthors on deck for clarity and balance. Always looking for additional recommendations, please. #KnowledgeIsPower

"I wonder how long I've had this book without reading it…

…oh right, high school writers' workshop. His speech made me cry." ?

So first I learned that Spain Rodriguez was not actually Latino, because his dad was a Spaniard, but whatever, still Hispanic, that's fine. Now I'm finding out that José Saramago was not Brazilian, but just plain old Portuguese. And MY Portuguese-heritaged ass knows all too well that we are not considered either Hispanic OR Latinx (oh well, I'm still reading his book during #LatinxAuthors month 😝)

Even though I'm still working on The Road, I hit the library on the way home yesterday because the #CDaudiobook of another book on my #LatinxAuthors #SeptemberTBR list was there, and I figured I could probably knock it out this week just keeping it in my car for the #audiocommute, which has the double advantage of not giving me the chance to keep forgetting it at home long past the due date!
