@TheSpineView #Two4Tuesday Thanks for the tag!

1. My grandma, she was my reading model for all of my formative years . 🩷
2. My husband. He is supportive and has my back even when we don‘t see eye to eye. Also my kids. They keep my honest and humble.

Another from the Massey Lecture series. Steiner‘s premise is that western civilization continues to look for certainties - in Marxism, in Freud, in astrology and the anthropology of Levi-Strauss - to fill the gap left behind by the decline of the Christian religion. He further posits that the search for ultimate scientific truth (for ex. that one day the earth will cease to exist) is something we cannot grasp which is why we turn elsewhere. Con‘t

Gleefulreader This is a good companion to The Prisons We Choose to Live Inside, and is still relevant today. Important note: it was written in 1974 and therefore there is some language in reference to hippies and their appropriation of Eastern culture that is outdated. 1mo

“The cults of unreason, the organized hysterias, the obscurantism which have become so important a feature of Western sensibility and behaviour during these last decades, are comical and often trivial to a degree; but they represent a failure of maturity, a self-demeaning, which are, in essence, tragic.”

As relevant today as it was in 1974.

42 out of 50. Hard to choose three (though not as hard as the villains list), but here goes:

1. Rick Blaine (Casablanca)
2. Philip Marlowe (The Big Sleep)
3. Marge Gunderson (Fargo)

Honorable mention to Han Solo, George Bailey, and probably half a dozen others who just missed the cut.

RaeLovesToRead 7....... wow. You are correct in that you have to give me cultural info 🤣🤣🤣 Ripley is the standout on this list, for sure. 2mo

Although very interesting, the technicality & high density is beyond my ability to retain/remember.

I‘ll just enjoy the music & compositions from the greats without trying to tear them apart🎧🎻🎹😏

TheAromaofBooks Great progress!! 8mo

I listen to non-fiction to put me to sleep (I used to read, this is nicer.) But 1) It takes months to finish a book 2) there are sections I miss, regardless of “rewinding“

I recognized names & places, but had never really put things together. Listening to this gave me context and the ability to tie it all together for the first time.

One note: he has a verbal tick of drawing out “aaaaaand“ which can get annoying. But not a huge deal.

CoverToCoverGirl @DieAReader the only thing I remember from music class were the flutes everyone tried, I was horrendous at it.🤭 9mo
