The Snow Child | Eowyn Ivey
post image

"You did not have to understand miracles to believe in them, and in fact Mabel had come to suspect the opposite. To believe, perhaps you had to cease looking for explanations and instead hold the little thing in your hands as long as you were able before it slipped like water between your fingers."

In this sequel to The Shining, I will not become my father #WhenIGrowUp is a big theme. ⬇️

rohit-sawant Excited that Ewan McGregor is in talks to play Danny in the adaptation.

Reggie Ewan as a grown up Danny. I dig it. 10mo
vivastory I still need to read Snow Child & I'm waiting a bit closer to the release of the movie before I read Doctor Sleep. Great choices! 10mo
rohit-sawant @Reggie Hahaha, right? 10mo
rohit-sawant @vivastory Thanks! I think you'll like both books. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on The Snow Child, especially. I tweeted at Ewoyn Ivey after finishing, saying it was like a collaboration between Ray Bradbury & Sherwood Anderson, and she dug the description! 10mo

Selected Poems | Pablo Neruda
post image

There's a bit of a mystery surrounding Pablo Neruda's death in 1963. The official report was that he died as a result of prostate cancer, but the outside expert consensus seems to be that that was a lie. Some say he was poisoned by secret service agents. (Sorry if this is a little morbid, but I just learned about it.)

@Cinfhen @vivastory

RaimeyGallant Secret Service agents are the worst. ;) 11mo
vivastory I've heard about this. It is a bit suspicious. What is maddening is the case of Roque Dalton, where the people responsible for his death are walking around free 11mo
readordierachel @vivastory Wow. That is awful! 11mo

Cinfhen No, thanks for sharing!!! I love political intrigue!!! 11mo
batsy Not morbid at all. I've heard about this and I'm totally convinced it's a cover up... 11mo
readordierachel @Cinfhen It's a wild story. I wonder if we'll ever find out exactly what happened. I agree with @batsy that it definitely seems like a cover up 11mo
Cinfhen Definitely want to read more about it! 11mo

The Good People | Hannah Kent

Hmmmm... these fairies/good people/changelings sure work in #mysteriousways.

I‘m about halfway through and feeling a bit bored by this book. I hate bailing so I might try to continue but I‘m struggling! 😕

TrishB Definitely a book that splits readers 😁 11mo

vivastory I've heard great things about Kent, but haven't read her yet 11mo

Cinfhen This is where I bailed...I don‘t think the pace picks up but I am curious to know how the story ends 11mo
BarbaraBB Your sister is right. YOLO 💃 11mo
Birdsong28 I'm about halfway through. I am finding that if you read for a long time it's ok but if you just have a few mins to read it is just so slow. Keep going, I am! 😘📚📖 11mo
batsy The cover is so pretty! 11mo

Nellie Bly certainly had #mysteriousways when she set out to circle the globe in less time than Jules Verne‘s 80 days. At a time where women rarely worked and stayed mostly to the home, Nelly was a pioneer.

Weaponxgirl Really want to read this! 11mo

#MusicalNewYear Day 21: Fats wrote about the #MysteriousWays of these middle-grade novels a year ago. For the tagged book, she noted: “A Willy Wonka for bibliophiles! How delightful! The book titles mentioned in the story got me all giddy!” For more titles and her full review, here‘s the link: https://wp.me/pDlzr-j9O
