She's Come Undone | Wally Lamb

Pickpick

So, back when Oprah started her book club, I was super into it and read quite a few of the first books she chose. This beauty was one of them. Decided to reread it this week and I‘m so glad I did. It‘s still wonderful, and 20 years later (omg I‘m old) it still resonates. Would you believe this is the only Wally Lamb book I‘ve read? 🤦‍♀️

Ruthiella Oprah books are sometimes too sad for me. I did read this one though and also 1w
AmyG He has a new book coming out June 10….River is waiting. Looks potentially fabulous. 1w
BarbaraBB I read this one and enjoyed it but before I read the tagged one and I was blown away 1w

CBee @Ruthiella I agree - the other ones I read when she first started were quite sad and intense. But, that‘s kind of my thing 😂🤷‍♀️😅 1w
CBee @BarbaraBB I have that one and have meant to read it a million times. Decided I‘m going to start it today - hopefully🤞🏻😂 1w
CBee @AmyG have you read any others of his? 1w
squirrelbrain I had a copy with the same cover, but it somehow got lost over the years - might have to buy another and re-read it. 1w
AmyG I read We Are Water, too. 1w
CBee @squirrelbrain I always loved the cover. This is the original one I bought 20 years or so ago! I found a couple places where I dog eared the corners to mark my place - gasp - I haven‘t done that in years! 1w
CBee @AmyG decided to start I Know This Much is True today and I think I‘m already hooked ♥️ 1w
AmyG EDIT: I read the tagged, I Know This Much is True and The Hour I First Believed. (edited) 1w
CBee @AmyG awesome 👏🏻 1w
Suet624 AmyG @BarbaraBB I Know This Much is True is my absolute favorite of his. My twin boys were babies when I read it and boy did it affect me. 1w
BarbaraBB @Suet624 That must have be extra special, while having your own twins (edited) 1w
BarbaraBB @CBee I Know This Much Is True is so good and I also enjoyed The Hour I First Believed @AmyG 1w
CBee @Suet624 I bet it did! 7d
Reggie I felt so bad for that girl in here. I remember to lose weight she imagined mold on her food. And that her grandma dies before she gets a chance to visit her but she finds her way to be ok in the end. 6d
CBee @Reggie yes! She does find her way after so much trauma 😢 6d
vivastory Remember when they used to sell the Oprah selections next to the cash register at Starbucks? 6d
CBee @vivastory omg total blast from the past - I didn‘t remember but now I do 😂😁 5d

Pickpick

This was a soft pick for this one which I read as part of the #ShelfSweeper Readathon #4Elizabeth. @Tove_Reads Book 2 from my shelf finished.

An interesting story finding out all about the secret‘s o& a pilot who was killed in an explosion in the air. As you find out more you get more and more annoyed by him, and what you find out. Some interesting twists along the way. Not sure what I make of the ending of the epilogue.

Tove_Reads Sounds mostly good, but the cover looks boring. 1mo
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads There are better covers out there for this one. Overall I enjoyed reading this one. 1mo

The tagged book is my second book read for the #ShelfSweeper Readathon @Tove_Reads #4Elizabeth

This book has been sitting on my shelf for more than 10 years. It tells the story of a wife who is awoken in the middle of the night to be told her pilot husband has been killed in an aeroplane accident, and goes on to tell his back story with no doubt some surprises along the way.

mcctrish I read this so many years ago and I remember it was an Oprah‘s pick and I was mad because I loved The Weight of Water so much more 1mo
Andrew65 @mcctrish Sounds ike you didn‘t enjoy this one as much. 1mo
mcctrish I did like it but Weight of Water was on a different level 1mo
lauraisntwilder @mcctrish The Weight of Water is the only Anita Shreve book I've read and I can imagine it would be hard for her other books to live up to that standard! 1mo
mcctrish @lauraisntwilder I was just so mad at Oprah ( and continues to colour my perception of Pilot‘s Wife to this day ) 1mo

Continuing the countdown of my books, from 1st to 25th, THE JACKAL‘S MISTRESS. Today it‘s my 5th novel, a 1997 story about a midwife on trial for manslaughter -- and the novel that would become my second movie (starring Sissy Spacek and Alison Pill), an Oprah's Book Club selection, and a #1 New York Times bestseller.

CBee Congratulations on an excellent book - I loved this one ♥️ 4mo

After two years of doing this I think I still have enough unread books to continue! So I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it.

Pickpick

I had this on my shelves for at least 11 years and never noticed the Ophrah's Book Club bubble. I'm not sorry I finally read it but the blurb on the back uses words like "sweet" and "tender" and for me it was brutal! Women trapped in awful marriages with no love. I wonder what I would have made of this if I read it long before I left my own marriage. It was another book from the 90s where the 10/11-year-old acts very much more grown up ⬇️

MommyWantsToReadHerBook than even my daughter who is 11 turning 12 and I'm quite baffled about whether it's a cultural thing. The children in this book are really treated horribly, emotionally speaking. 5mo
ChaoticMissAdventures I really struggle with books from the 90s feeling awful and dated. Every book written around that time seems to have women treated horribly. 5mo
willaful Ouch! 5mo

This was a book club pick. A very fast paced book but predictable. There was a movie made on this that I need to watch. Kathryn‘s says good bye to her pilot husband Jack not knowing it would be the last time she would see him. His plane goes down and an investigation starts to see if terrorists are involved #winterreading #library #familydrama

I have been searching fir this book for 2 years after reading Joy School. I found it in a charity shop:)
But it's a bit twee, a bit break up trope and cringy... I'm jot sure I'll seek any of her others...
