Harris was such an amazing talent - this was a hard but authentic read.

Nute This type of book is a difficult read, but I always feel like the telling of a life gone too soon imparts some rare piece of wisdom. Stacking! Thanks for sharing! Welcome to Litsy! It‘s a warm and friendly community. I know that you will enjoy yourself here. I‘m looking forward to getting to know you!🙂 3y
Kaarin @Nute oh that‘s so kind! Thank you for a warm welcome! 💕 3y

Mr. Coleman has done a remarkable job with this series. I‘m so glad that he‘s keeping it alive and well this latest Stone mystery didn‘t disappoint but then again it never has. It keeps me waiting until next years addition!

I wasn‘t going to sleep last night until I finished this. I struggled through the last like 10 pages, but I did it! 😂. This a fun, easy to read series. I‘m reading them totally out of order but it doesn‘t really matter! Jesse Stone reminds me of Stone Barrington.. ! 🤗

This book was so full of heart and insight. I could feel the author‘s emotion through her writing and I found this to be such an honest account of loss and grief. Funny and heartbreaking all the same and very important. Loved this!

allureofbeauty That sounds interesting 5y

With so many available words to depict the gravity of a thought, constant overuse of the f-bomb instead is maddening.

This could have been a very important book on grief. I‘ve been there, thought those thoughts, and said the same things while processing the pain. I get that, and it‘s comforting to know it‘s normal. But the crude writing was so distracting, the tragedy of the story behind the grief got lost somewhere.

Megabooks Glad I sent this back to the library! 😳 5y
MelissaSewell I really wish it had been written better. I didn‘t appreciate the juvenile humor that her brother was revered for, but I know there‘s an audience for that. Just not me! 5y

I can‘t decide if I want to read this book. From what I‘ve read, I don‘t think Harris is particularly funny, I didn‘t like the shows he wrote for, and I‘m not really into comedy.

BUT I think his death from an opiate overdose is tragic, and I‘m having a hard time turning away from his sister‘s pain.

Help? Advice?

Cinfhen I keep seeing this title but I haven‘t read it yet. Good Litsy rating 6y
Megabooks @Cinfhen I‘ve read the intro and two chapters. So far it‘s okay borderline good. I‘m going to read my other book before bed and give it one more shot in the AM. 6y
Cinfhen Another book I‘ve seen offered on Hoopla!! 6y

CouronneDhiver Not every book is for everyone... or for this particular time. It‘s not a personal rejection of the author. If you read it begrudgingly, you won‘t get the full message anyways 6y
Megabooks @CouronneDhiver That is so true. Thank you 😊 That‘s an excellent way to put it. 6y
L_auren Late to the party but I really enjoyed this on Audio! 5y
Megabooks @L_auren Hey friend! Welcome back! The audiobook is on hoopla, right? Maybe I‘ll try it after I finish 5y
L_auren @Megabooks I‘m always here in he background 😄 yes I got it on hoopla. It was a good pace. How it Meaty? I was lukewarm on her yellow cover book with angry cat haha 5y
Megabooks @L_auren I‘m enjoying it more than yellow cover, which I did enjoy as well. Her level and type of snark is perfect for me. She‘s not as bubbly and silly, which is what I hated about Phoebe Robinson‘s new book. I had to DNF that one. Back to Samantha Irby, there are an unusually large number of references to sex and specifically anal sex. That‘s probably my least favorite part, but I‘m on the asexual spectrum, so that‘s not really my thing. 5y
L_auren @Megabooks good to know! I‘ll grab the audio if I see it floating around! 5y
Megabooks @L_auren I finished Meaty yesterday, and as the book went on, I got more and more disappointed. In the beginning, when she‘s discussing her upbringing, which is unconventional, it was great. 4⭐️ Then she gets on her soapbox about relationships and men, and I found how she did it disgusting and boring, so it ended up being a 2.5⭐️ book. I posted a review on the Meaty page. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y
L_auren @Megabooks k never mind!!! Thanks for making sure I knew 😳 5y

Catherine Ricketts‘ stunning and beautiful essay on The Millions is worth reading and pondering. https://themillions.com/2018/10/what-i-saw-when-i-really-looked-my-late-brother-... (Had me reflecting back on Stephanie Wittels‘ journey in her powerful memoir about losing her brother, comedian and actor Harris Wittels.)

Anyone else pick up the #hoopla book club pick? Has anyone read it? What did you think?

Also I‘m sorry I‘ve been absent lately. I‘ve been sick and having after effects from the treatments. I‘m really frustrated with it. I still love and miss everyone. 💕😘
