Perfect read for Halloween night 🎃

From now on calling this The Real Housewives of Wuthering Heights. I missed this in school and have always been intimidated by it. WHY? These people are crazy as hell.

Perfect book for the start of October 🍁

I like Ruth Ware‘s work but this one was a slog. A fine enough premise, but the author kept the audience distant from the truth for too long, which made the pace wrong. A healthy edit was really needed here.

Started out slow and with so many characters that I almost quit. Glad I hung in there because it picked up and the plot turned out to be a lot of fun.

Carrie Fisher was a blessing and I will hear nothing different

On the fence about this one. Some great writing. But i found myself grasping at the larger point.

Diabolical. I loved it.
I recently rewatched the movie, which made me curious about the book. It doesn‘t disappoint.

This book‘s heart is in the right place. But the message is one we‘ve heard many times before. (Did you know that boys & girls are socialized differently?!) The phrase “brave not perfect” is a great rallying cry. But, there isn‘t anything else that is new here.

Edited: orig had this as “so-so” but ended up using one of the techniques described during a hard conversation. I guess I f‘n learned something.

There are some good points here and solid explanations. The cursing thing is kind of a schtick. The audio version sounds like it was recorded at her kitchen table.

This one nearly killed me.

Not for me. I‘ve read other JD Robb that I enjoyed, but didn‘t like this one. Listened to the audiobook which was unintentionally hilarious at times. Chewing the scenery + accents that came in and out.

Loved it. A man dies in the middle of nowhere and no one understands how or why. The plot starts out so focused and small and then opens up over time to reveal more characters & more complexities. A great slow burn.

Just getting into this and loving the set up. The premise is like a locked door mystery- except it takes place in Australia‘s outback.

I was in the mood for an interesting mystery and this scratched that itch!

So FREAKIN adorable. Middle grade book but honestly just read it if you are in the mood to be delighted.

Welp. There were some solid points made here and it did have moments of insight. But dear goodness what a mess of a book.

A punch in the face

Agatha Christie disappeared for 11 days in 1926. This story imagines what happened. A well researched book, though at times the author is out to prove it is well researched versus following the best narrative path. But still a fun & interesting read.

A sweet love story with memorable characters.

Meh. There are some wonderful things about this read - an atmospheric, moody setting; a solid protagonist; it‘s obviously well researched. But the overarching plot I found slightly tedious.

Loved the premise of literary characters being in the same world. Really didn‘t like where the plot eventually went, tho. But I loved the characters enough that I would definitely try something else by the author.

I‘ve always really loved Sedaris but it surprised me how many of these didn‘t age well. 😬😬

Fun, fast paced read. I was looking for a spooky story for the last week of October and this definitely did the trick. 👻

Was reading Ruth Ware on my way to brunch & ended up having this delightful & beautiful breakfast! (Avocado toast topped with flower petals.)

It‘s a classic for a reason 😁

I appreciate her candor about living with pain & mental illness.

A solid mystery.

I got so much out of this one. It takes complex notions about the brain & trauma and explains it in a conversational way. It‘s kind and encouraging.

What a great reading experience! Because this work is the subject of so much imitation/ parody reading the original text is a hoot. It comes off as camp which I wasn‘t expecting at all. Spooky, weird & surprisingly hilarious.

There are some beautiful moments in this book, but I wish it was a bit more instructive

YA thriller. Imagine if Scandal took place in a high school. Completely improbable but what a great read! The author is wonderful at pacing. Had fun with this one.

I can‘t tell you how much I hated this book. Incredibly gendered. You don‘t want your husband to divorce you because you are making a mess while figuring out how to make your space beautiful AM I RIGHT LADIES? 🙄🙄

This one was such a surprise. Not my usual genre but I heard such great reviews that I had to try. Wonderful world building with strong female characters.

It‘s so slow. I am actually happy with a story where you get lots of info about the town / setting / characters and it builds a world. But this one didn‘t get going until half way through. There are huge chunks that could have been cut.
