so-soWell, I wish I was coming to the end of this series with a more pronounced thought than 'thank goodness that's over'. The premise, which this book seems to be partly justifying the departure from the early idea to the later watering down, is appealing, the world-building for the most part, and a number of the characters. There are several reasons I stayed invested. 1/?
Tonight‘s treelight read. Maybe it‘s because it took me over a year to source THE REVOLUTION BUSINESS and a couple months beyond that to actually read it, but it feels very much like a bridge book. Stuff‘s happening, and it‘ll probably be important to the grande finale, but it hasn‘t gripped me the way the first four volumes did. Oh well. It‘s still interesting, just not AS interesting as I expected it to be.
pickThe first novel I‘ve read by Terry Pritchett. It‘s 1916 on the Western Front where Private Percy Blackney awaken on the grass. Where he hears birds singing and the breeze stirring in the leaves. The novel has “steppers” who are able to travel from one world to others. There are lots of humorous little tales and the fiction wound up in the book. The characters are definitely different. It was a fun read. 4/5
pickExhausting and entertaining, as usual! There were a few things about this particular entry in the series that made me love it just a little bit more. The Victorian steam punk-mad scientist-masked ball atmosphere of the Grand Technological Exhibition and the techno-gothic atmosphere of the Sagrada Familia cathedral were truly gorgeous set pieces for the rapidly developing action leading to the climax. 1/?

pickA pick, but mostly for the last 30% of the book…
The beginning was very slow & in almost excruciating detail (although Lila‘s high seas antics helped a bit), & the book was more of a setup for book 3 than a completed story. BUT I liked the parts I liked enough to overlook that (I love a tournament plot line & a little romantic tension)
I started rereading NOTORIOUS SORCERER this afternoon ahead of the third book in the series, and I‘m shocked it doesn‘t have more Litsy love. This is great stuff, people! Grab it if you want a queer fantasy with excellent characters, inventive magic, and tons of genuinely interesting politicking.
I shall read more while I drink this mead, about which I have too many comments for Litsy‘s character limit.
