TheSpineView @julesG Just checked my library. Unfortunately, thay don't have a copy. I'll probably pick it up the ebook at Amazon or Kobo. 2d

Pickpick

A much-belated review of the #OokBOokClub read from January (I‘m working through my backlog of completed-but-not-yet-reviewed books!)

I‘m torn over this. I loved its examination of political/religious propaganda (especially in wartime/in service of conflict), and I loved the way it pokes fun at and takes down gender stereotypes. I loved its diverse characters and the little cultural glimpses each one gives us, from trolls to Igors to vampires.⤵️

BarbaraJean (Cont‘d) …And I loved the slow reveal of each character. But the middle of the book draaaagggged for me. I felt like it needlessly meandered on its way to the ending and the various reveals I loved so much. And yet I gave it 4.5 stars, so… 🤷🏻‍♀️ 1w
julesG You're right, the middle dragged. I wonder whether I thought so too when I read it the first time ages ago. 🤔 1w

Pickpick

I liked this Discworld installment featuring Moist von Lipwig, though not as much as I liked Going Postal, in which he was introduced. I loved the introduction of canine Mr.Fusspot as chairman of the bank! As usual, Pratchett's satirical observations of the world are spot on.

“The dark organ music filled the Department of Postmortem Communications. Moist assumed it was all part of the ambience, although the mood would have been more precisely obtained if the tune it was playing did not appear to be ‘Cantata and Fugue for Someone Who Has Trouble with the Pedals.‘ As the last note died, after a long illness, Dr. Hicks spun around on the stool and raised the mask.”

BookmarkTavern I love all the side characters in this book so much! Mr Bent, and Igor, and Mr Fusspot! I‘d read an entire book about Mr Bent. I did want more Adora Belle in this story. 2w
BookmarkTavern I do like that Moist is like “Adora Belle is 90% of my impulse control” and the rest of the city just seems to know that. 2w

julesG @BookmarkTavern Mr Bent is an interesting character indeed. 2w
julesG And they are only engaged at the moment, what happens once they are married. Will he be sedate? 2w
Balibee146 My favourite thing about the Moist Von Lipwig series is the good amount of Vetinari we get. I love the way he appropriates Mr Fusspot, yes he wants to hold on to him as the bank Chairman; but I have a sneaking suspicion he also really wanted the little doggie 😊 2w
julesG @Balibee146 Agree, more Vetinari is nice. And that's how I read it too, Vetinari was looking forward to having a doggie. 2w
kwmg40 I enjoyed this book, though not as much as Going Postal. I too find Vetinari a really interesting character, and loved meeting Mr. Fusspot. 2w
BarbaraJean I really enjoyed this one, but I agree with @kwmg40--not as much as I enjoyed Going Postal. I felt like the social/governmental satire was stronger there, plus more Adora Belle! Prior to this buddy read, I'd only read Mort and the Tiffany Aching books, so Vetinari is getting slowly revealed to me as we move along, and I'm finding him fascinating. @Balibee146 I agree, he wanted a doggie! He needed a little buddy now that Wuffles is gone 😢 1w
Balibee146 @BarbaraJean awww little Wuffles 😟 1w
