Obviously I‘ll read anything by Jason Reynolds. This is an ode to the “King of Letters” Langston Hughes of Harlem Renaissance fame and it happens at the Schomburg Library (qv The Man Who Built a Library by Carole Boston Weatherford). The guests include Angelou, Baldwin, Butler, Brooks, DuBois, Walker, Morrison and the like. Reynolds‘ 1st picture book.

Sophie works for a local florist shop & is applying for fashion design after high school. She has to attend all the events in town, but so does Andrew, the new chef‘s son. He tends to get on her nerves in the beginning, but throughout the year, she starts to not mind it.

3.5⭐️ This 1 was a little boring and I didn‘t like the characters very much. It was cute & funny here & there, & I liked the ending. I wanted a little more romance.

And just like that I‘m done with #monthlymagazineblitz for February. This was an older issue from when they still had the tear-out page in the back with highlights of some of the articles. Here are some tips on how to create a beautiful #bouquet by matching your flowers with the right vase. #luckyinlove

Crazeedi I have sooooo many vases, this is very cool. I pick flowers as soon as they start coming. Love to have posies on my table! 3mo

I feel like I should start off every Jason Reynolds‘ review with a disclaimer about how much adore him. ☺️
I swear I could hear him in my head reading this one. I loved the words and the art. I love that this book came about because of a photo of Maya Angelou and Amiri Baraka (who I had never heard of) dancing at this party.

I put the audio on hold at the library so I could really hear him. 😀

Loved it! This was our first Carl book, thank you so much, Chrissy! Perfect for us!

Mom and Dad go to attend a masquerade party - and Carl and Baby follow! A book with few words, the illustrations (which are gorgeous!) cleverly fill in the story.

Good dog, Carl! 💕

mabell @Chrissyreadit So sweet and fun! I‘ll definitely keep an eye out for more Carl books! This is the only one so far, but we have to check with our neighbor for the other packages. We got back late last night. It was so much fun! Her cousins love her and vice versa 💕 A learning experience, as everything is, but a successful trip! 6mo
Chrissyreadit ok I bet it is at the neighbors. I‘m glad you had a great trip ❤️ 6mo
mabell @Chrissyreadit Yay! More Carl!! 😄 So sweet of you to send it gift wrapped! Soph had a great time opening it, and the tissue paper entertained her for quite a while 🤣 Thank you so much for sending the books! What a fun surprise! ❤️ 6mo

No, none I can think of. I hardly have any set Halloween tradition apart from reading and watching as much creepy/spooky/gothic stuff as possible. But then, I do that the whole year round😅
On Halloween itself I try to go out to a party. Since I'm slightly goth/'dark scene' there are a few to choose from. After all, Halloween is THE single most important holiday of the year!🖤😄

Do you have any? @BeeMagical @RaeLovesToRead

5feet.of.fury I like to reread Hound of The Baskervilles and/or Sleepy Hollow, I‘m planning for Sleepy Hollow this year! 7mo

RaeLovesToRead I have a confession to make... I don't really like Halloween 😅😅 (probably shouldn't say this on Litsy). I do like the Autumn though so it's all about the knitwear and hot beverages 💕💕 7mo
BeeMagical I have a book from 1912 called “Games for Halloween”! It‘s the oldest Halloween book I have! 🧡🖤 and I love reading “We have always lived in the castle”🏰 (edited) 7mo
BookwormAHN Halloween is my favorite so I tend to celebrate all month long. On Halloween I try to hand out candy, not many kids show up since I live on a side street. But those who do get two handfuls of whatever candy we have. I love to see their faces when I let them really dig in to the candy bowl 😸 7mo
BookmarkTavern Totally understand! There is so much spooky to appreciate! Thanks for answering! 7mo
Yuki_Onna @BookwormAHN Me too! I really celebrate October as the 'Real Beginning of Autumn' anyways (I know it technically begins in September, but naaaahhh)... 😌
In Germany we don't have much trick-or-treating, sadly - seeing the kids so happy must be a treat😊

Yuki_Onna @RaeLovesToRead Rae, noooo!!! How can you?!😩😉🤗 7mo

I definitely would never call this book a thriller, more like an afternoon read that was written well
