I have been in a reading rut for a while now. School started and I'll start reading to the kids and that should help. But I'm not getting my Litsy notifications. So my motivation to read and review is also tanking. I'm trying out using Instagram and threads, but I'm just not satisfied. I need inspiration!

This book is excellent for teaching the smallest about 911

I read this with my daughter for her language arts class. It was still (depressingly) relevant even though it was published in 1991. We hated the ending though, and screamed out loud 😂

MatchlessMarie I remember reading this is middle school. I probably need to revisit it as an adult sometime haha 2y

Very interesting story about a boy who humed to the national anthem and found himself suspended. While the closure didn‘t sit well with me, the way the story was delivered was fabulous. Short blurbs of conversation helped keep the story separate between the many spins offs from multiple outlets; news, parents, school board… etc. everyone had a say in something they didn‘t really know. Amazing this was written originally 1991.

Unpopular opinion: disappointing collection of essays.
While I found some bits and pieces interesting, when it comes to making his points, his argumentation was superficial and weak. On some subjects, on the press for example, I found his writing naive, very much ignoring hard talks. He probably wanted to write an uplifting collection of essays, essays easy to understand, but in this case it's at the cost of intellectual honesty...

⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐5 ⭐ I have loved this book since I was a child. And it remains relevant today. I love that it has a new audiobook that is full cast for more people to discover and enjoy. When this book came out, I remember thinking this stuff never happens, but as an adult in Trump loving America, not only does this happen, but it has also gotten worse. One of the things I love most about this book is you see the event from multiple sides.

LibrarianRyan The sullen teenager who just thinks his teacher hates him, the teacher who knows her student can be/do better, the parents who want to stand up for their kid and their freedom, and the community who only hears part of the story. This plays so much into our current nation and the ongoing teacher story. This should be mandatory reading! 2y
MatchlessMarie My class read this in 8th grade. Will have to check out the audio! 2y
Peddler410 Thanks for posting about this one. It is by far my favorite Avi book and I‘m way overdue for a re-read! 2y

This is the flag that inspired Francis Scott Key to write the Star Spangled Banner which became our National Anthem. It is ensconced in a light- and temperature-controlled exhibit at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington DC. It is an amazing thing to experience, humbling and awe-inspiring and unforgettable. 🇺🇸 #FlagDay #JulyJam @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

Patriotism, according to #DanRather — a fitting reminder heading into the 4th of July weekend. #BearWitness

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I didn‘t realize this one had been transformed into a graphic novel…I‘ll have to keep an eye open for it. 3y
