This was a sweet novel, although the second half felt truncated. She says in the beginning how much she would come to know her son's father's ways, but she never does.

"Beyond that, I knew nothing, especially not of love's beginnings, of that inexplicable draw to another, why some boys could pass you by without notice but the next has a pull on you as undeniable as gravity, and from that moment forward, longing is all you know."
Awwww, this made me rather weepy.

Couldn't decide what to read! I don't actually know how the book spins or bingo things that people do on here work, so I just put out six books from my TBR shelf and rolled a dice 😊🎲

"The landscapes of our youths create us, and we carry them within us, storied by all they gave and stole, in who we become."

What a meaningful title. Sad but beautiful. The resilience, strength of women and the love of the natural world really shined for me.

Loss. So much loss in this book. But also resilience. And ultimately, hope. A worthwhile read, but you have to be in the right mood.

4.75⭐️ I think I first heard about the book through either Sarah‘s Bookshelves Live or Currently Reading, but whichever podcast I heard about the book from, I knew that I would have never heard about it if not for them. I flew through the book and it took me less than 24 hours from starting it to finishing it. I really liked the way the author told the story. Probably one of my favourites for #2025. #bookreview #historicalfiction #fiction
