I‘m not sure which part I found the most charming/entertaining - a witch who traps princesses in towers for the art of it, a princess who eventually realises that violence is the answer and a bottom of the garden fairy with a penchant for science, tactics and explosives. This was my first Tamsyn Muir - and I loved how this unfolded so I suspect - not my last.

It got a little more interesting right toward the end, but most of the journal entries seem trivial. She also talks way too much about having to hide her diary. The most interesting part of it was the historical facts after the diary entries. Knowing that Queen Victoria did keep a diary starting at the age of 13 makes me want to read that instead! This was the newest book on my TBR.

Last night was one of our favourite school events of the year! Every year, they host a Snuggle Up and Read evening. Everyone comes to the school in their pajamas, and there are all sorts of literacy focused events throughout the school. It's the most cozy form of chaos, and the kids LOVE it!

Counting this one as a book with a map—Scotland and France, that is. This was an excellent installment of the Royal Diaries. To me, the most effective historical fiction is one that makes me want to research what really happened! Which is why I appreciate that the authors of Royal Diaries put the history at the end of the story. After reading the Cleopatra Royal Diary, I thought maybe I just didn‘t like it because I‘m an adult now. Nope.

This was a bit whiny, so it is totally believable. Lilly saying that the made for TV movie made her look like a bad friend. LOOK IN THE MIRROR, SISTER.
But honestly, Lilly was much better and way more supportive. Especially when it came to her best friend and her brother. That was really nice.

I enjoyed the artwork in this version of the classic fairy tale. I went back & read the Grimm‘s version online to see the gentling down in the modern versions (like princes being banished rather than beheaded for not discovering the mystery). A quick & nostalgic read. 💛

I‘m so not ready for another crazy work week & the general crazy that will happen starting Monday. 😵‍💫
