This started out with real promise, but quickly derailed.
The multiple POV and the 3 different time lines with the first person voices sounding so much alike made this too much work for the mediocre end.

Texreader Whew! These can be some tough “listens”!! 2w
Enchanted_Bibliophile @Texreader I'm so glad I had the audio, otherwise I would have DNF it 2w
TheAromaofBooks Personally, if there are more than 2 POVs, I think the entire book should be in third person instead. 2w
Enchanted_Bibliophile @TheAromaofBooks Totally agree, it just makes for easier reading. 2w

This one started well, with Ivy League secret societies, racism, a death, and family strife. And I mostly enjoyed it, though it is at times unclear which sister is talking. But by the end, there‘s way too much going on and it just devolves into silliness, such that I almost panned it.

GingerAntics I‘ve got this ready to go, but I‘ve been hesitating. I think I‘m going to put it off now. 3mo
Hooked_on_books @GingerAntics A reasonable choice, though there are some people enjoying it. Sometimes when other people find a book a mess I enjoy it anyway. Bit of a toss up, I think. 3mo
GingerAntics @Hooked_on_books I get that. That‘s happened to me, too. I‘m just not sure if I‘m feeling it right now. 3mo

Pickpick

Secret societies create unhealthy environments. They look glamorous on the surface, but there‘s an ugly worm in the center. This novel switches back and forth between past and present and between 2 different characters. There is murder and intrigue and too many secrets. I felt the story could have been a little shorter and the twists were really just kind of curves, but overall, I enjoyed it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Secret societies, mysterious deaths, relationship issues…there‘s a lot of suspense and unknown piled into this novel. I liked the depth in which race and privilege was examined and how it tied into the main story.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

I found this one hard to get into - and normally I like a dual timeline thriller. It picked up midway through, though I think I‘ll have forgotten all about it in a week or so.

Bailedbailed

Bailed after 200 pages. The book desperately needed a better editor, and after reading some Goodreads reviews, helped make up my mind to just forget about this convoluted story that needed condensing and a better ending. Life's too short for bad books.
I'll go ahead and start a reread of Rebecca.

I thought this sounded good and kinda spooky.. we're only a few days into November, so it's still not too late for spooky season, right? 🙂 hoping it's a good pick.

BookmarkTavern It‘s never too late for spooky! 👻 8mo
