If you‘re new/curious about #quantumphysics, #parallelrealities and the illusion of time… this illustrated all of that for me through mini storytellings! Super short and sweet, great read! 179 pages, Highly recommend (:

The author takes a historical approach showing what problems with a Newtonian-based view quantum theory was reacting to and then how it has developed over the years. The easiest parts of the maths involved are relegated to an appendix, although the author stresses that it's impossible to fully understand the theory without the maths. Even in this stripped down form I was struggling but I think I did get glimmers of understanding here and there.
I really wanted to like this book because astronomy is one of my "secret" fascinations. But it fell very short. It starts off ok, and my only confusion stems from a European sport Idk about but later the author references diagrams in the physical book...which kind of defeats the purpose (imo) of the audiobook. If anything, this is more of a companion to the physical. In conclusion, I understood almost nothing bc I couldn't see the diagrams ?
#NewYearNewBooks Day 17: This looks like a #SciBreakthrough kind of book. Recent book haul from the Big Bad Wolf book fair in Sharjah. Here‘s the rest of my book haul (at least Part 2 of 3): https://wp.me/pDlzr-pYy
Chen (we are not told his other name) sees his parents killed by ball lightning while celebrating his 14th birthday. He dedicates his life to studying this phenomenon only to find that there are plans to weaponise it.
This is actually part of [The Three-Body Problem] universe, mainly taking place while the Trisolarians are watching Earth. If I'd known that I would have read it much earlier. As it is, I did find it dragged in places.
“What are new-concept weapons?”
“Well, for example, in the Second World War, the Soviet army strapped explosives onto trained dogs and had them slip beneath German tanks. That was a new-concept weapon, and an idea that still counts as a new concept even today."

Charlotte Villiers recruits Everett's E4 alter to plant a tracker on the Everness, which has been hiding on E1, soon to learn just why E1 has been quarantined off.
A nice line in horror for this volume. Can't wait to see how it all turns out.
