Lesliereadsalot Loved Salt Water. Cant wait to hear your thoughts. 3d
Ruthiella @Lesliereadsalot I‘m reading it because of your review! 😅 I‘m 80% done and don‘t love it the way you did. That is, unless the last 20% knocks my socks off. It is entertaining but slow and I don‘t appreciate multiple perspective storytelling generally. 3d
BookNAround Although there is certainly some problematic language and attitudes in the Christie Mallowan memoir, I thoroughly enjoyed it and hope you do too. 2d
Ruthiella @BookNAround Definitely the memoir reflects a less enlightened view of non-Europeans etc. which is also often found in her novels as well. 2d

#WhereareyouMonday

This Monday I‘m in 1930s Syria at an archaeological dig with Dame Agatha and her second husband, Max Mallowan. Some of my favorite Poirot novels are those set in the Levant region, so I am looking forward to this memoir.

BarbaraBB Interesting location! 1w
Ruthiella @BarbaraBB I think it will be an interesting read! 🤞 1w

These are all books I physically own that I hope to read in May for the #ShelfSweeper readathon hosted by @Tove_Reads and @Andrew65 .

I didn‘t see any from @eanderson ‘s list that happened to coincide with my plans but I will still be reading in her memory #4Elizabeth ❤️ If there is a heaven, surely it is a library.

LeahBergen I really enjoyed the tagged book! 2w
Andrew65 Looks some excellent reading ahead, good luck. 2w

Continuing the countdown of my books, from 1st to 25th, THE JACKAL‘S MISTRESS. Today it‘s my 15th, THE SANDCASTLE GIRLS (2012), a love story set in the midst of the Armenian Genocide. As a grandson of two survivors, this is a profoundly important book to me.

Kristin_Reads I married into an Armenian family and absolutely loved and appreciated this book! 3mo
Suzze The Sandcastle Girls is my favorite of all your books, although I‘ve loved every one I‘ve read. 3mo
ChrisBohjalian @Kristin_Reads Oh, thank you! Really honored. My mother was Swedish and loved being part of my father‘s extended Armenian family. 3mo

Pickpick

Gratz has a talent for writing the truth of difficult situations. He weaves several plots together, making the reader care about each. It makes me want to host a refugee family. The audiobook was a great road trip listen.

Set in Syria during the uprising, we follow Salama, a girl in her late teens, battling day to day life under the Assad regime.

With the recent fall of Assad, this felt like a timely read.

I want to read these books to understand some of what's going on politically in Syria and to see the everyday person having to life under these circumstances. What does survival look like for someone whose country runs in their veins.

Fantastic book.

Mehso-so

A fictionalization of a real story, this was okay. I didn't like the writing style the author chose to use, but I did get used to it.
