pickThis one was very hard to pin down for me. I'm calling it a soft pick, but just barely.
The character concepts and the premise were unique enough to hold my attention and keep me reading, but the narrative did fall prey to over-explanation in many places, and yet it also had several elements that were a bit confusing and under explained.
I'm still undecided about whether or not I will pick up the next book.

bailedLoved the premise of this book but the FMC was not likable. The story just felt tedious. I loved ‘We Hunt the Flame‘ and this author is fantastic, but I just couldn‘t get into it. DNF page 60.
“Instead, she spoke a quick prayer in the language of her Saints and began the steep climb down the outer wall. Inej pitied the boy who might die alone with no one to comfort him in his last hours or who might live and spend his life as an exile. But the night‘s work wasn‘t yet over, and the Wraith didn‘t have time for traitors.”
I‘ve been in the slumpiest of reading slumps so the fluff and I are listening to this.
pickLies, betrayal, and true friendship! I thought this was a great read — lots of action and really rich characters with lots of development. The plot was complex and tangled, with a great twist at the end of the story. Maybe a few pacing problems, but overall a really good read.
I‘m a sucker for a pretty book…but this also has a really interesting premise and the promise of lots of twisty conflict so…

pickI‘m VERY late to the party for this #LSFBC #LitsySciFiBookclub and May #bookspin pick.
It took me three tries and several weeks to get past page 100. I almost dnf‘d this one. I‘m so glad I didn‘t. Once it clicked for me I really enjoyed it.
