The next 2 weeks of my life leading up to spring break - and I still feel like a kid on Christmas when I see this truck. #scholasticbookfair #teacherlibrarian 🤩 my goal is to make it fun.

Texreader Best days in school ever!!!! Enjoy! 2y
mandarchy @Texreader it really is! We are having a mocktail party with games and prizes on Monday for the teachers. So much fun. 2y
Texreader @mandarchy And I‘m going to self-invite myself to that party!! 😉 I‘m so glad you all are putting your all into this and having fun with it too. I ❤️ the impact it has on kids. I‘m sure book fairs at school got me addicted to going to bookstores. 2y

mandarchy @Texreader my favorite event at out fairs is having staff take VIP students shopping while it's closed. The counselor gives me a list of students that need love and a book. We use the ALLFORBOOKS donations plus our Scholastic dollars. Adults are instructed to avoid interfering in choice and the only rule for the student is that it has to be a book. So they can get journals or books. It really makes your❤ grow. 2y
Texreader @mandarchy That is heartwarming and brilliant. Building readers among those least likely to grow up readers. Giving them a safe place to take their minds when they need to. Oh my heart. 2y
mandarchy @Texreader well said ❤ 2y
Moonprismpower Can you post a pic once it is all set up? This is awesome. 2y
mandarchy @Moonprismpower yes. I'll be more than happy to 2y

Day 3: arts & crafts
SMASH BOOKS #teacherlibrarian edition. A sloppy cross between journaling and scrapbooking. These are a few old planners with student work in the back ground. At the end of the year we cut up old books and make art. I've been making these for years and found out in Pinterest that it's called smashbooking.

DivineDiana I love it! ❤️ 3y

Littens, I need help! I have a student who is in 3rd grade. He's burned through the Andrew Lost series in record time. Magic tree house is a little too easy for him and Riordan might be too much. Give me some series ideas! #letkidsreadwhattheywant #kidlitseries #independantreaders #teacherlibrarian #primarychapterbooks

Literary_Siren If he likes Harry Potter then he‘ll like the Septimus Heap series. 3y
mandarchy @Literary_Siren I don't know if he's read Harry Potter yet. Half of that series is middle grade. But Septimus is a good idea! 3y
Twainy Zombie Squad or Jack Jones series? Too old? 3y

Tattooedteacher How about the wired school books. Or Raold Dahl books. Beast Quest. Dragon Masters. Dragon cove. (edited) 3y
BlueMoonJ Sideways stories from wayside school? Or captain underpants series 3y
BlueMoonJ @MothAndMoons any suggestions? 3y
MothAndMoons @BlueMoonJ The land of stories series by Chris Colfer! 3y
mandarchy @Twainy @Tattooedteacher @BlueMoonJ @MothAndMoons I'll look into these. Great ideas. It's so hard to find harder books for younger kids or easy books for older kids. I'm reading sideways school and didn't even think of it! Perspective 🤔 3y
The_Penniless_Author What about either the Warriors series or Wings of Fire? My daughter is in fourth grade, and everyone her age has been obsessed with these books for the last year or so. There are also a million of them (especially Warriors) so it's hard to run out. 3y
mandarchy Thanks @The_Penniless_Author I'll check if he'd like Wings of Fire. I appreciate all these ideas! He knows about the popular series but he's gravitating toward the forgotten books. Also I think his family wants him to stay in the primary section for another year or so. I haven't read the series he's reading, and that has made it hard to make a suggestion. Maybe I need to read Andrew Lost? 3y
Tattooedteacher I wonder.. what about The Series of Unfortunate Events. 3y
mandarchy @Tattooedteacher that would work if it weren't middle grade. He needs something that's under 4th grade. He reads at a high level for his age but he's not ready for the content. 3y
humouress My youngest is now in secondary and probably an advanced reader so I can't tell anymore if these would be the right reading level: 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid', 'Tom Gates' or 'Land of Stories' series? And maybe 'Skulduggery Pleasant'? I think both my kids got into that at around that age and it still has my 12 yo hooked. (edited) 3y

Pickpick

Here is my new library. Today was my first official day as the new part-time job-sharing teacher librarian. It was information overload. New faces, new names. I am nervous but excited. Yay. But of course, the downside, not as much time for reading. Sigh. #librarylife #lovemyjob #teacherlibrarian

rekahlee Good luck! Is that like a children‘s librarian? What will you be doing? 6y
Missusb It‘s a secondary school (yrs 7 - 12), all girls, very small and multicultural. There‘s a lot of IT support for staff and students. But yes trying to build a stronger reading culture. 6y
Joanne1 I've been a secondary school teacher for years. I've taken something of a break in 2017-2018 to train as a librarian (still doing some emergency teaching). I'm hoping one day soon I'll be posting a similar post. Good luck, you'll be great! And squeeze in the reading wherever you can, plenty of YA I imagine. 6y
