Binti | Nnedi Okorafor
post image

I just love this series. Nnedi Okorafor breathes a fresh air into sci-fi with Binti, who is a young, extremely talented Himba girl, the first ever of her tribe to be accepted to Oomza university. I will need to read more by her!

readordierachel Perfect choice for this prompt! I want to read her other work too. 8y
Gezemice @ReadOrDieRachel She is so good. I looked through the other posts and figured she has not been mentioned yet, and she is delightful. 8y

#FierceFeb #ToBeYoungGiftedandBlack Isaiah Quintabe (IQ) is young, gifted and black & now uses his Sherlock Holmes-like talents to solve crimes in his South Central neighborhood. I really enjoyed IQ last year so I was very happy that the second book in the series is on sale today for Kindle for $2.99. 🎉📚👍

batsy I really want to read this 👍 8y
Cinfhen I almost bought this deal yesterday! 8y

Zadie Smith was only 24 when White Teeth was published. Angie Thomas only turns 30 this year. James Baldwin was only 29 when he wrote Go Tell it on the Mountain. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie wrote both Purple Hibiscus and Half of a Yellow Sun before she turned 30.

Hamza and Yehat, the Coyote Kings, spend their days in Edmonton working minimum-wage jobs, watching anime, designing mech suits, and helping out in their community. When a femme fatale shows up with an ancient relic, pursued by a group of D&D playing mercenaries called the Fan Boys, they may just have to save the world.

In Alchemists of Kush, 2 child soldiers gain superpowers, one in ancient Egypt - one now. #FierceFeb

batsy This sounds amazing. Love those covers. Also, the description is kind of making me think about the book I just started 8y

Another Brooklyn: A Novel | Jacqueline Woodson

#fiercefeb #tobeyounggiftedandblack

This book about four young black girls in 1970s Brooklyn is beautifully written. It‘s about friendships and families and neighbourhoods and how those can help protect you from hardship or subject you to more of it. All these girls are talented, full of potential - but ... in steps race/gender/class/poverty as well as individual traumas. Highly recommend this to everyone.

batsy Love your description. @Billypar picked Woodson too and I know for sure she's a writer I need to check out. 8y
Centique @batsy I need to read that one too! 8y
Cinfhen This was such a lyrically told story! Loved it 8y

LeahBergen @batsy It won this year‘s Writers‘ Trust Fiction Prize. 🇨🇦 8y
Moray_Reads I second @batsy. If it's in a pile with Yaa Gyasi and Helen Oyeyemi I want to read it! 8y
