so-soA student gave me this book to read, so bless her heart I read it. I have read Uglies, but not the other two in that trilogy, so I knew who Tally was. I did not care for this one. The story was meh, the characters were annoying, the word “vast” was used maybe 47,392 times (I do love the word, but dang it was a lot!). At least it was a quick read!
pickIt was a surprise that the main character was new, not Tally. But for me it was like a fresh start and I really liked Aya. I also loved that you saw what is happening three years after the events in book 3.
Pacing was good and there was a lot of action. I was quite intrigued to know what was going on and what was going to happen next.

I didn‘t particularly enjoy the writing, or the characters, and I really despised the language/slang that was created for this universe. It drove me nuts 😂 maybe this would be better read than listened to… I dno!
Need some input, please!As y‘all can tell from my last review, I finished the first of this series a few days ago. The second had no wait list on my library so I started it just now. Early on, like VERY early, they casually drop the r-slur. That‘s a massive turn off for me. I don‘t like it, but I can get thru older books that use this kinda language, but this is what? A 2005 work? Bit of a turn off. Is this series worth it? Keep going or drop it?
pickYknow when you get sucked into some internet black hole and you blink to see 20 more books in your tbr list? Yup, one of those. I was in a forum and a thread caught my eye: “similar series to Hunger Games”. I love HG. It‘s one of my comfort reads, spesh after I quit Harry Potter. This was suggested as a dystopian, future high-tech YA with many backers. Overall, it was decent…it felt more limited than HG, but I can see the similarities.
so-soI was a bit disappointed how interaction with Dr.Cable was almost non-existent - she didn't feel that big threat like this. But I liked Tally, she was quite a badass.
This felt a bit slow, I would have loved loved to have more action and more thrilling moments. This somehow felt like repetition of the same pattern that previous books had, I had hoped to get something new.
