A biography of Wallis Simpson.

A mixture of very interesting facts (I had no idea she was still married to Mr Simpson at the time of the abdication, I always had the impression he was long gone) and wild speculation (she was flat-chested and a graphologist said her handwriting was masculine so she could have been a man with a hormonal disorder). Read with a large dose of salt handy.

Pick for the facts, so-so for the speculation.

Bailedbailed

I can‘t even. First the author went on and on about what seemed like pure speculation about some medical matters. I rolled my eyes and skimmed. But then she said the reason Wallis was abused by her first husband was because she brought it on herself and I had to bail. Next please!

DGRachel I‘m often astounded at the harmful statements some women make about other women. Isn‘t it hard enough to be a woman in our misogynistic patriarchy? 2y

The storyline flips from the 1910s to the 1990s, from Rachel's life as the owner of a shop specializing in early 20th century clothing to a Mary Kirk who is the best friend and confidante of Wallis Simpson. A complicated time when women were emerging from Victorian morés and realizing their own self worth. The death of Princess Diana is a side note in this book. ⬇️

Crazeedi How women in the pre WW1 Era are to look and act figures prominently in the book. Though fictional, much of the information is gathered from facts known about Wallis and her becoming Edward's wife. 3y

Two storylines connected by Wallis Simpson and Princess Diana! How could I not read (listen to) this?!? Quite engaging. I felt the 1930-40s storyline was more interesting and detailed. The 1990s storyline just supported it. 3/5👑s

Wife The Fiancée of the 1990s female lead character is a jerk! 3y

So, after reading a slew of psychological thrillers, the main character stupidly trusts and married the “perfect” man with movie tar good looks and money. To top it off he‘s totally fine with having Grace‘s Down syndrome sister with them. So many clues that friends miss. One in particular - husband and wife have the same email address. Poor Grace, she marries a sadistic psychopath, how will she escape?

Thanks for the tag @Eggs 😁
1. Tagged! Goes between a couple in Paris in 1997 who witnessed Diana‘s car crash and the 1930s with Wallis Simpson from the eyes of her best friend. I‘m terrible at synopses 😬.
2. 👍
3. Historical mysteries and cozy mysteries

I grew up in Baltimore, and so did Wallis Simpson. Later in life, I discovered that the romantic, true story of a King who relinquished his throne for a “common woman” had a dark side. However, I do still find her fascinating! Day 14 #curiouscovers #woman
