My goodness, what a thoughtful, wise, sensible, beautiful book. I listened on audio, but I‘m buying a physical copy, because I want to read it again and again, highlight passages, and write in the margins.

AnnCrystal 👏🏼🤩👍🏼📚💝.

I haven't read this one, but when I found Braiding Sweet Grass at REI, I went back to the store and purchased a second copy. I wanted one that I could highlight and write notes within, and another for my mom's library. Kimmerer is incredible. There was one main issue I had, but otherwise loved the book.

This debut is the perfect cocktail of glamour and menace.

Initially, the concept of a bitter sister taking over her deceased twin influencer's meticulously crafted life, filled with dark secrets lurking beneath glossy surfaces piqued my interest.

However, I quickly recognized it as a thriller that exploits influencer culture instead of merely using it as backdrop.

⬇️ continue ⬇️

Enchanted_Bibliophile The fast pace and high stakes create a blend of rising tension and moral rot in privileged spaces, that kept me hooked until the very last second.

This book had everything I love in historical fiction. It was well-written, well-researched, and had an admirable female main character. Its strong sense of time and place gave me a glimpse into a time in American history that I know little about. The entrenched, systemic racism was hard to read about, and so saddening, but it did serve to highlight Belle‘s incredible bravery and determination. ⬇️

julieclair As a bonus, I learned a lot about early manuscripts and the Morgan Library in New York City. I‘d love to visit there someday. 5mo
HettyG This has been on my list for so long.... I simply must move it up. 5mo

Cuilin I got to visit the library May 2024 and it took my breath away. They also had a special Beatrix Potter exhibit which was really sweet. 5mo
julieclair @HettyG It had been on my list for a long time, too. I‘m so glad I finally got to it! 5mo
julieclair @Cuilin I would have loved to see a Beatrix Potter exhibit! (Not to mention the library, lol.) 5mo

This was a weird book, and it had a rather oppressive feel to it.
Cassie breaks up with her girlfriend, abandons her job, and heads back to her father's house. There, she runs into her high school best friend, Eli. He is recently widowed and very quickly. They catch up. He ends up married, and she ends up in big trouble
