Pickpick

Second book of #ReadYourWay and fourth book of #cocoturns50 completed!

I picked up this book on a recommendation from an author whose writing course I'm currently taking. I spent yesterday and most of today planning for NaNo and used this book specifically to figure out the emotional wound of my main character.

I've also been reading Uprooted by Naomi Novik. Four more readathon hours for #TeamHarkness.

PLOTTO winner, PLOTTO, and Tin House united at last! As the winner of The Master Contest of All Plots, John Lawton just spent a long weekend finishing a new story in the Tin House writer's studio. (We like to think at least one of Plotto's 1,462 plots came in handy.)

Stories, 500 words or less, due 10/31 at 5pm PST. Enter the #contest at www.tinhouse.com

Ilana Whaaaaaaaaaaaat when I won Plotto years ago there was no residency! (Maybe because it was the student edition? Hmm.) Anyway - AMAZING! 8y

Tools of the trade. While going through submissions to the agency's Writers Digest University course tonight, I found myself often referencing Jennie Jarvis' CRAFTING THE CHARACTER ARC when addressing issues of characterization in manuscripts. "Who is your protagonist? How does that person's story drive the narrative forward? How will your reader/viewer identify with this protagonist?" page 24
