Bay of Sighs | Nora Roberts

Brought this on vacation with me because sometimes you just need some Queen of Romance. I'm all for highbrow lit, but Nora Roberts is my book comfort food. #notevenguiltypleasure

Yossarian Looks like the cover of a Percy Jackson book! 8y

Pickpick

What's your favorite mountain-y adventure book? As much as the narrator of Wild annoyed me with her unpreparedness, I keep coming back to it when I feel nature calling.

I love the soul searching in this book, something that travel and adventure often have you reflecting on. I'd love more recommendations like this, but maybe fiction?

Kitty_Rochsmith Have you read Eternal on the Water by Joseph Monninger? Or his book The World as We Know it. Both Fiction related to outdoors but also a character story to it not just the outdoors playing a role. I do love his work. 8y
carys14 I went into this one assuming I would not like it but was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. 8y
eedevore I love those candles! 8y

Readingrobin This was suggested by a man I know. He raved about it. I liked the film more. 8y
Gonerogue I fell in love with nature coming of age stories as a preteen, so my mind always jumps to jean craighead george (Any and all) and gary paulsen ☺️☺️☺️ as for adult fic.... Let me get back to you on that (apparently not as memorable, whoops) 8y
Little_Reader How about Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer? The book was way more interesting than the movie. It's non-fiction but I still keep thinking about it. 8y
DebReads4fun Try The Secret Wisdom Of The Earth, by Christopher Scotton. I just finished it. Fantastic book! 8y
aeeklund I agree completely with @Rowanwax about Jean Craighead George and Gary Paulsen. Even as an adult. Also Elizabeth George Speare. 8y
UnabridgedTomes John Muir's writings about being in the mountains is transcendent with his joy. Edward Abbey and Wendell Berry's back catalogs are also good places to go. 8y
hike.read.repeat There are a bunch of thru hiking journals/memoirs. Mostly self published or by indie publishers. Married to the Trail is on my tbr. Also, Thru-Hiking Will Break Your Heart is a more well known one that I've heard of. 8y
hike.read.repeat Also totally agree with you on how scary it was to read Strayed going into the trip without any prep besides buying her gear. 😱 Not a good example at all. 🙅🏽 8y
sarahgreatlove I loved Wild. 8y
Megabooks I really enjoyed this one. Lots of reflection. 8y
ElizaTodd I love love love this book 8y
readinginthedark I haven't read the book, but I have some candles from that shop and love them! 8y
MargaretPinardAuthor The Old Ways by Robert Macfarlane: kinda like a Rebecca sip it walking adventure- delightful and amazing. 8y
Shaaaannnn Definitely read A Walk In The Woods by Bill Bryson. 8y
Gulfskye A Walk in the Woods and anything about climbing Mt. Everest. I can't think of the name of the book by Jon Krakauer. 8y
Gulfskye Oh My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys by Pam Houston. 8y
Procrastireader @Gulfskye "Into Thin Air" 8y
Gulfskye @Procrastireader That's it! Running on two hours sleep makes one's brain fuzzy! 8y
Procrastireader Ugh--cannot get past her idiocy. People have died being that kind of arrogantly stupid. At the (ahem) polar opposite on the preparedness scale, South by Shackleton and The Worst Journey in the World by Apsley Cherry-Garrard. Kon-Tiki, The Call of the Wild, Never Cry Wolf (superb movie, too!), Born Free--and YES to John Muir & Bill Bryson--An Unexpected Light by Jason Elliot, Wild Thoughts For Wild Places by Quammen...and so on😜 8y
WhatStaceyReads I love Frostbeard candles!! 8y
jackie_reads If you want a fictional mountain adventure I loved Lori Lansens' The Mountain Story 8y
mabell A Walk in the Woods, definitely! 8y
Gonerogue Why thanks @aeeklund ! I'll have to check out Speare... I don't think I've read her. I did think of another, but Mary Oliver is a poet 😆😆😅 8y
FrostbeardMPLS @readinginthedark that's my candle shop! ☺️ 8y
FrostbeardMPLS @Procrastireader awesome, thanks! 8y
FrostbeardMPLS @jackie_reads great, thanks! 8y
FrostbeardMPLS @Chaggarty perfect! 👌 8y
readinginthedark @FrostbeardMPLS Congrats on being awesome! 😉 Love your candles! 8y
AmyAgentBor AWOL on the Appalachian trail. He's much more prepared than Strayed with less baggage. Also Bear in the Backseat is a fun book about encountering animals in the wild. 8y
MrBook Nice pic! 😊👍🏻 8y
GourmetGwen Follow That Arrow is a book I wrote about walking the Camino de Santiago 8y
Baelwolf Krakauer's "Into thin air" and "Into the wild" are both excellent. "Undaunted Courage" is another one of Lewis and Clarke. 8y
JohnG Sorry to disagree but I did t enjoy this book. Her level of naïveté or unpreparedness irked me no end. Much preferred Into Thin Air by Krakauer. 8y
Annecw The Living Mountain by Nan Shepherd. Thoughtful, lyrical, intelligent, with an extraordinary awareness of her surroundings - although she maintains 'the mind cannot carry away all that it [the mountains] has to give, nor does it always believe possible what it has carried away' 8y
Annashep I've just got this book in the post .. Looking forward to reading it after reading a magazine article about the author and how she came to write the book :) 8y
