I have been gone for awhile and have a lot of catching up to do. I'll begin with David. I laughed. I cried. I loved it!
What goes on in the Grand Hotel - the good and the bad -mirrors the world outside. We get a snapshot of a few of the occupants in 1920s Berlin as they come and go through the hotel doors. It is both funny and bitter sweet. I enjoyed spending a couple days of my vacation with this lovely book.
Finished reading this with tears in my eyes. Perfect read for my road trip to Whitefish,Montana.
This was an entertaining read. Last book for 2016. Some of it was over my head but I couldn't put it down.
Beautiful inside and out! I was lucky to find a copy in the States.
...and here are the books I bought myself the past few weeks. I'm thinking of limiting my purchase of books to a mere 24 in the new year so I'm going a little crazy. I really need to conquer my huge tbr pile but can I really stop bringing books home?
Another holiday escape. I loved it! Didn't want it to end! Had everything I needed to forget the Wyoming Winter and the stress of Xmas.
Loved it! Just what I needed to start off December. Prunella rocks! Read it!
I have a thing for the Sitwell family. Not sure why but they intrigue me. Edith's memoir is mostly entertaining. She can be a snarky old eccentric at times. The part I didn't like was all her explanations about her poetry. Don't have that kind of patience today.
My Thanksgiving book. Great way to spend the day!
I couldn't control myself. As soon as I put this book down, I went on Biblio and purchased 3 more of his books.
I'm with Bookdodger. This book is hilarious! If, you can find a copy, read it! It deserves more attention. His prose is superb and his wit leaves the reader engaged to the end of the journey.
A well researched and beautifully written account of bold women enchanted by the American Southwest . Women who said the hell with tradition and, in the early 1900s,created the lives they longed for instead of living the lives dictated to them by society.
A lovely debut novel. I was sucked in by the prose and couldn't put it down. I adored the 10 year old narrator, Grace, and her buddy, Tilly. They are hilarious!
#6 of my 50 for 50. A great read for October. Bradbury both charmed and creeped me out through his prose. The night I finished the book, I had nightmares.
An entertaining memoir of a lost world. I'm drawn to the decadence of it all . Even his killing of Rasputin couldn't save the Russia he knew.
A fascinating memoir from the man who led the plot to kill Rasputin. His life was one of privilege and decadence until Russia unraveled. My fascination with the Russian Aristocracy continues....
Just finished reading. Still adoring Teffi! She has kept me in good company on the beaches of Spain.
First book read on my trip to Spain. It was beautiful and sad and I loved every minute of it!
Absolutely loved it! A history book that entertains and educates. I have sold 5 at work and keep pushing it.
I love this book! My favorite read so far in 2016. I've sold six !
#3. Love to read about other people reading , especially when they have good taste.
Book #2. A delight. Some stories better than others. Great on the porch with a glass of Pinot Grigio .
I can't put this down! What a life!
