This book started out like a lion, but ended as a lamb. Gaiman set up this fantasy world well, but the character development and relationships fell short and the story lost its allure by the end. This is a rare occasion where I prefer the film over the book.

This was just so pretty.
Sandman on Netflix and Neil owning people on twitter has made me realize lately that I should have gotten in on Neil Gaiman earlier. His audio books are great, he‘s always so good at doing the voices.

🌠🌌 Told as a fairytale, a young man is pursuing his love proposes to her and they see a shooting star, he offers to find her the fallen star and in return she‘ll give him his heart‘s desire. Magic abounds on his quest.

tokorowilliamwallace I read this about a decade ago, but was never really inspired or interested to read more by him. But last year I found a mass market paperback edition of one of his short story collections at an Amtrak station I thought I could read on the train from northern Virginia to central Florida (I've only read his introduction so far). 3mo
5feet.of.fury @tokorowilliamwallace I‘ve read so far this one, Good Omens and Norse Mythology. I picked up Sandman Vol 1 recently but haven‘t started it. 3mo

#BookReport - Solid week. I finished the checked books, plus the tagged book which I think may be hidden behind Wanderers in this photo haha Wanderers and Break-Up Book Club ended up DNFs for me this week, although I haven't decided if they are forever DNFs or temporary ones 😂 Currently reading The League of Gentlewomen Witches, which I'm hoping to finish today. Sacred Clowns was probably my favorite read of the week.
@Cinfhen

sherrisilvera I enjoyed Sacred Clowns also. You reminded me to look back at Hillerman. 5mo
TheAromaofBooks @sherrisilvera - I'm working my way through the series quite slowly, but really enjoying these books a lot. I really like the contrast between Leaphorn and Chee and their life-perspectives and detective methods, how they are so different from each other yet both still bring a valuable perspective to the situation. 5mo
sherrisilvera I had read only a few and so long ago. Have you tried the Longmire series? Those components are there as well. 5mo

Cinfhen Woohoo!!! Progress!!!! And how is it even possible that it‘s almost time to add your JULY books?????? 5mo
Gissy I thought Wanderers was good, is in my old tbr😳 5mo
TheAromaofBooks @sherrisilvera - No!! I haven't even heard of it - I'll definitely look them up!! 5mo
TheAromaofBooks @Cinfhen - To clear the windowsill I only need to read 22 books by Friday, so that's totally doable, right?? 😂 5mo
TheAromaofBooks @Gissy - I just don't think I was in the right headspace for it!! The concept does sound really interesting, so I might come back to it. 5mo

Reviewing this actually catches me up on reviews!!

This was a #Roll100 pick from April that I finally got around to. This was an engaging fairy tale that I enjoyed overall, but somehow didn't love the way I wanted to. Gaiman's writing is quite good and I actually did like the ending, but I found it difficult to connect to the characters. Still, a solid pick

I actually received this back in December 2020 for the #ElfSwap from @LibrarianRyan !!

Clwojick Woohoo! ❤️ 6mo

Chelsea.Poole @TheAromaofBooks same here! I planted some last year and seeing a bit of expansion in them this year, which I love! 5mo
LibrarianRyan I get that. I am not the biggest fan of Gaiman. I always want to love his books, but just like them. But I love this movie? 5mo
TheAromaofBooks @LibrarianRyan - This is only the second Gaiman book I've read. The first was a picture book/short story, The Sleeper & the Spindle, which I didn't care for at all. He may just not be for me haha I may have to find the movie for Stardust, though, because I really did like the overall story/concept. 5mo
LibrarianRyan @TheAromaofBooks The movie was fantastic. I read the book after I had seen the movie. I also read the Graveyard book and still don't get the fanfare, and i agre about the Sleeper and the Spindle. I tried the Ocean at the end of the lane in audiobook, nope. Boring. But the Movie that goes with stardust is so fun. 5mo
TheAromaofBooks @LibrarianRyan - I definitely have some authors where I love their ideas/concepts more than their actual books, and Gaiman may be one of those. I had forgotten that I also read the Graveyard Book until you mentioned it as it was quite long ago, but I was rather ambivalent towards it at the time as well. 5mo

This remains one of my absolute favorite Gaiman novels. This was my 3rd time reading it and it still carried me away. It‘s a lovely story filled with humor and adventure. I‘d recommend it to fans of The Princess Bride, dark fairy tales, or anyone looking to try a Gaiman novel. The story comes full circle in a wonderfully satisfying way. The characters are feisty, the lessons are good ones and it‘s a quick read.

Super enjoyed this ☺️ I was nervous going into this read because I love the movie so much and didn't know how they would compare. The book is definitely different, but not in a bad way, imo. The main plot was the same, with extra characters and side adventures. There wasn't the intense battle scene at the end that I was expecting. But overall the fun magical vibe was still there through it all ✨

peanutnine Also, I've noticed that I enjoy book/movie adaptations more when I watch the movie first and then read the book, rather than the other way around like I used to do. There's usually less disappointment when the movie ultimately changes something from the book because of time constraints/cinematic effect 2y

So currently I would have to say The Night Circus. I read it in December and was completely immersed in that world. I love a fantasy that I can feel myself living in.

Oh I‘d definitely live in a fantasy world. Magic and beauty and mythical creatures would be lovely lol
