I did not expect this book to be as good as it was! I even cried a few times. Like, real tears! Dog eared a few pages, wrote some quotes down and have already passed it along for others to read! SO GOOD!!

The Cuckoo's Calling | Robert Galbraith

Well, that was MUCH better than I expected! Like all crime novels, you've got to get past the laying of the foundation at the start, but when it picks up, It keeps you into it! Galbraith, aka Rowling, does well to develop the main character into a great lead! Something she excels at! I was pleasantly surprised by this book and have/will continue to recommend to others!

The Dharma Bums | Jack Kerouac

Kerouac has this way with the words in his stories that always make me want to just abandon my life and head out on a grand adventure. While it didn't illicit the great longing that stayed with me after On the Road, it still brought with it an urge to get out and see something I had never seen before. I love Kerouac's ability to create that feeling. This was a wonderful book! #JackKerouac #TheDharmaBums

Naked Lunch: The Restored Text | William Burroughs
post image
Panpan

Finished on my flight home from Alabama and I honestly have no idea what I just read. It was mostly just a jumble of words that sometimes made sense but mostly made absolutely no sense whatsoever. I 100% understand why it was a banned book, and if I believed in book censorship I would say it probably should still be banned. I have been made more stupid by reading this book and can't believe I actually allowed myself to finish it. #NakedLunch

DivineDiana Now, I'm intrigued! My local organic grocery has a cafe called The Naked Lunch complete with framed photos of Burroughs! 7y

Who says good reading can't also include pictures? The life lessons you can learn from Calvin and Hobbes are AMAZING! This has been my pre-bedtime read for a while now. Just finished it and LOVED IT! I relate to Calvin and his sidekick Hobbes in a million ways! This book is for everyone and is guaranteed to leave you with a SMILE!! #CalvinAndHobbes #BillWatterson

I've gotten in the habit of starting books when I have NO time. This one took longer than I wanted it to, but I'm glad to be done. This book made me realize I've grown out of the YA genre. This was the kind of book I would recommend to my nephews and nieces and they would love it. As an adult book, I found the writing and the story line to be juvenile. I don't think I'd recommend it to adults, but definitely to YA's! #RansomRiggs

And the Hippos Were Boiled in Their Tanks | Jack Kerouac, William S. Burroughs

Honestly, I didn't know what to expect from this book. I'm a Kerouac fan but have never read anything by Burroughs. Turned out to be a pretty clever book. I loved the peek into the bohemian lifestyle of the 1940's. The different POV's were annoying at first but by the end it broke up any monotony (which there was little of). Definitely a book I recommend to Kerouac/Burroughs fans! #JackKerouac #WilliamSBurroughs

Um, what the heck Paula Hawkins? I literally started this book about 5 hours ago and could not put it down until I had finished it! AMAZING!!! I loved the development of the characters and the twisting and turning of the story lines! Not to mention a true look at the dysfunctional life of alcoholics! So good! Seeing as it's nearly 330am I'm going to bed but best believe I'm passing this off to someone in the morning! #PaulaHawkins #GoodRead

Factotum | Charles Bukowski
post image
Mehso-so

Well, I will say this about Charles Bukowski, he knows how to develop a character. I usually love Bukowski, but this one was just pointless. Details the hard reality of the job crisis during the war and post war...but the main character...his laziness and brashness just got annoying. I'd say just pass, unless you're a big Bukowski fan. #CharlesBukowski

Read this book on my cruise and it was just the right length! While it's not one of Kerouac's best, it will not disappoint you! If you are a Kerouac fan, this is a must read!! Wicked fast read too!! #JackKerouac

The prince | Niccolò Machiavelli

I mistakingly started this book right before study week for finals and finals week. This book that should have taken 2-3 days took me 2 weeks. Not that the material was boring, in fact, it's quite interesting and full of useful bits of information. If you are in a leadership position this is a good book to read. I think I would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't overlapping with finals! #NiccoloMachiavelli #ThePrince

What an interesting book! Quick read, but absolutely fascinating! I don't really know how to describe it besides referring to it maybe as an existentialists bible! It is quite simply, fascinating! A good study on sociopaths and how they live in society with a great story! It's just fascinating! I know I'll read it again!

LIFE CHANGING!!! Those are the first words I would use to describe this book! A friend recommended this to me quite a while ago so I bought it. It sat on my "to be read" pile for nearly a dozen months before I finally got to it and I couldn't put it down! It has revolutionized my perspective and changed my heart on giving thanks for life and living fully! This is a MUST READ!! I will definitely be reading it again! #AnnVoskamp #Eucharisteo

There is something I am mad about...it's that no one EVER told me about this book even though when I told people I was reading it they all said they LOVED it! I was in absolute TEARS by the end of this book. It's hard not to be. You're just so attached to the characters by the end! This book is BRILLIANT and I am glad to have finally experienced it! #TheBookThief #MarkusZusak

Listen, if you're going into this thinking you're going to be reading something with the caliber of 'To Kill a Mockingbird' I will tell you that you will be displeased. If you harbor no expectations than you will be pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable this book is! A wicked fast read, incredibly interesting and sometimes shocking. There are certainly a few downfalls but I would and have recommended this book to others! #HarperLee

Shakespeare, Macbeth: notes | William Shakespeare

"And oftentimes, to win us to our harm, the instruments of darkness tell us truths, win us with honest trifles, to betray's in deepest consequence" // I just read Macbeth in 2 days and in 2 sittings for my humanities class. I've always adored Shakespeare and amidst the old-speak and blank verse rhymes is found quite the story of a fallen man whom we can learn a great deal from! #Shakespeare #Macbeth

Is It Just Me? | Miranda Hart
post image
Panpan

To Preface, I LOVE Miranda Hart. I love her as a comedian, as an actress and as a person she seems rather genuine...I'm just not a fan of Miranda Hart, Author. It's not hard to get through and it's definitely got a few decent laughs, which is a bit of a plus, but I wish I wouldn't have tainted the omnipotence of Miranda with her book. It's not something I would recommend, unless your a big fan, so I would definitely pass! #MirandaHart

Beginning of this book requires commitment! I thought I was in for a long haul through the introduction of the characters and an explanation of the conditions of the people (I've never been much for the dystopia-esque books). Once I got passed them, I couldn't put it down. Went into work super tired last night after staying up reading it! A classic ahead of its time for sure! #GeorgeOrwell #1984 #classic #bannedbook

This defied my expectations! It took me about 40/50 pages to adjust to the script format and the new characters but after that...HOOKED! I couldn't put it down! I thought the interactions between Ron, Hermione, and Harry were a bit off, not necessarily what we are used to. Overall, I'm a fan! #HarryPotter #JkRowling

Journalismchik @Alohamoraopenabook 1984 by George Orwell. I usually force myself to read something modern before reading a classic so I'm reading a memoir a comedian wrote right now. Quick read. I'm all about the classics! 8y
