Martin‘s Big Words (B) written by Doreen Rappaport and illustrated by Bryan Collier is an excellent book to get students to learn about Martin Luther King Jr. and the key roles he played in the Civil Rights movement. This book not only include vital information about Martin life, but the images are also beautiful. I think this book would work well as an IR or SR.

This exciting book “Captain Raptor and the Space Pirates” SF by Kevin O‘Malley and Patrick O‘Brien is a great book for IR. I know that a lot of young children enjoy dinosaurs, so this book will be a great option for them. This book is about Planet Jurassica being attack and raided by pirates, so it is up to Captain Raptor to come save the day. The Three Little Aliens and the Big Bad Robot (TL) by Margaret McNamara and illustrated by Mark Fearing is a lovely book. This book is about a boy named Richard who sits down to have breakfast and finds an alien named Aric in his cereal bowl. “Brown Girl Dreaming” (P) by Jacqueline Woodson is a Newberry Award winner book and a must read. Each page will have you wanting more and more. The poems are beautiful and well put together. Lois Lowry “Number the Stars” (HF) is a Newberry Award winner book. This book is told through the eyes of a ten-year-old girl name Annemarie. Her family decides to hide her best friend Ellen and disguise her as part of the family. It is important for Annemarie and her family to do everything they can to keep Ellen hidden and safe. The winner of the Caldecott Medal “Why Mosquito‘s Buzz in Peoples Ear” (TL) by Verna Aardema and illustrated by Diane Dillon and Leo Dillon is an amazing read. This book tells the story if a Mosquito that is causing some trouble in the jungle. The Word Collector (RF) written and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds is an amazing book and would be great as a RA in the classroom. This book is about a little boy named Jerome who enjoys collecting words and adding them to his collection. However, a problem soon arises when his word collection becomes too large and the words get jumbled together.

Henry‘s Freedom Box (HF) written by Ellen Levine And Illustrated by Kadir Nelson is a true story from the Underground Railroad and winner of the Jane Addams and Coretta Scott King Award. In this story a slave mails himself to freedom. This (AF) book “If You Plant a Seed” is a great book to teach students about the act of kindness and generosity. You can use this book as a RA to students. Over all, this is a cute book and explains how a seed of kindness can bare sweet fruit. The UDL principle include 7.2; optimize relevance, value, and authenticity. He soon meets a new friend name Ruby, a baby elephant who brings about unpredictable change. This is an amazing story about a generous women Name Omu who shares her dinner.
