All the Seasons of the Year (F) written by Deborah Lee Rose and illustrated by Kay Chorao is a cute story showing all the seasons throughout the year. I think is a great book to RA to students, while also incorporating a lesson on the different seasons. The UDL principle that align is 3.1; activate or supply background knowledge. Use EL strategy 45; use Venn diagrams to compare and contrast the different seasons. #lae3414sp19

DrSpalding You must teach about the seasons in kindergarten and first grade. Often times this occurs during Calendar time. Good choice. 6y

The book “Anansi The Spider” (TL) written and illustrated by Gerald McDermott is a folk tale. This traditional tale is about a spider name Anansi who sets out on a long challenging journey. When he finds himself in danger a few surprising characters help save him. Anansi is so happy to be saved but doesn‘t know who to reward. Read this exciting book to find out who will be rewarded. #lae3414sp19

Martin‘s Big Words (B) written by Doreen Rappaport and illustrated by Bryan Collier is an excellent book to get students to learn about Martin Luther King Jr. and the key roles he played in the Civil Rights movement. This book not only include vital information about Martin life, but the images are also beautiful. I think this book would work well as an IR or SR.

This exciting book “Captain Raptor and the Space Pirates” SF by Kevin O‘Malley and Patrick O‘Brien is a great book for IR. I know that a lot of young children enjoy dinosaurs, so this book will be a great option for them. This book is about Planet Jurassica being attack and raided by pirates, so it is up to Captain Raptor to come save the day. Read this book to find out what Captain Raptor and his crew do to save the planet Jurassica. #lae3414sp19

KAdudu The UDL principle I found that align is 5.3; build fluencies with graduated levels of support for practice and performance. Use EL 21; record your lectures, presentations or stories on audio tape especially for new students who have very little exposure to English.

The Three Little Aliens and the Big Bad Robot (TL) by Margaret McNamara and illustrated by Mark Fearing is a lovely book. This book retells the classic fairy tale “The three little Pigs” in a very interesting and creative way. I think this would be great to use for S to students in the classroom. #lae3414sp19

“Brown Girl Dreaming” (P) by Jacqueline Woodson is a Newberry Award winner book and a must read. Each page will have you wanting more and more. The poems are beautiful and well put together. My favorite in particular is “Second daughter second day on earth”. In this book Jacqueline shares her personal experiences growing up African American during the 1960‘s and 1970‘s. #lae3414sp19

Lois Lowry “Number the Stars” (HF) is a Newberry Award winner book. This book is told through the eyes of a ten-year-old girl name Annemarie. Her family decides to hide her best friend Ellen and disguise her as part of the family. It is important for Annemarie and her family to do everything they can to keep Ellen hidden and safe. This book is based during World War II when the Danish were smuggling the Jews across to Sweden. #lae3414sp19

The winner of the Caldecott Medal “Why Mosquito‘s Buzz in Peoples Ear” (TL) by Verna Aardema and illustrated by Diane Dillon and Leo Dillon is an amazing read. This book tells the story if a Mosquito that is causing some trouble in the jungle. It begins when the mosquito tells the iguana what he seen, which leads to the ciaos happening in the jungle. #lae3414sp19

KAdudu This great book shows students not everything is what it seems. The UDL principles include; 2.4 promote understanding across languages, 9.3 develop self- assessment and reflection. Use EL 17 provide contextual support through audio visuals, models, demonstrations, realia, body language, and facial expressions.

This book is about a little boy named Jerome who enjoys collecting words and adding them to his collection. However, a problem soon arises when his word collection becomes too large and the words get jumbled together.

New York Times #1 best seller Jamie Lee Curtis “I‘m Gonna Like Me” (RF) is a phenomenal book about feeling good and liking yourself. I think this a must read in any classroom to all students. Therefore, this would be great RA. The UDL principles included is 3.2; Highlighting patterns, critical features, big ideas and relationships. Use EL strategy 10; Teach think, pair, share strategies in cooperative groups.

Women have made a lot of change in history, especially these African American women. “Hidden Figures” (NF)written by Margot Lee and Illustrated by Laura Freeman is a magnificent book about four black women who played a huge role in the space race. This book would be a great RA and get your students excited to learn about history. #lae3414sp19

This book discusses the challenge of a Mexican-Puerto Rican student at all white school and the problems she faces while her family is filing a lawsuit in the federal court. This book really dives deep into racism while also listing important events in American history. #lae3414sp19
