Lost in Austen
Lost in Austen: Create Your Own Jane Austen Adventure | Emma Campbell Webster
45 posts | 27 read | 52 to read
Bringing together Jane Austen's most beloved characters and storylinesa clever, playful, interactive, and highly entertaining approach to the wildly popular novels in which you, the reader, decide the outcome Name: Elizabeth Bennet. Mission: To marry both prudently and for love. How? It's entirely up to the reader. The journey begins in Pride and Prejudice but quickly takes off on a whimsical Austen adventure of the reader's own creation. A series of choices leads the reader into the plots and romances of Austen's other works. Choosing to walk home from Netherfield Hall means falling into Sense and Sensibility and the infatuating spell of Mr. Willoughby. Accepting an invitation to Bath leads to Northanger Abbey and the beguiling Henry Tilney. And just where will Emma's Mr. Knightley fit in to the quest for a worthy husband? It's all up to the reader. A labyrinth of love and lies, scandals and scoundrels, misfortunes and marriages, Lost in Austen will delight and challenge any Austen lover.

Have any of my fellow #Pemberlittens watched this show? I had such high hopes because Hugh Bonneville plays Mr. Bennett, but the rest of the acting was painful to watch! ☹️ I‘m contenting myself with rewatching his performance in Downton instead. (Also pretty sure the show has nothing to do with the tagged book by the same name, but an Austen choose your own adventure has got to be either the best thing ever or the worst thing ever!)

Read this a while ago... basically you get to be Elizabeth Bennett and woo Darcy (or several other of Austen's male protagonists). Some of the footnotes share revealing insights about Austen's novels. The moral of the story seems to be that intelligent women are less likely to end up married, which I have certainly noticed in real life.

I‘m sure one could experience #Hysterics taking adventures in this book. Choose your own adventures for Jane Austen fans - who will you end up with at the end? Choose wisely, or there may be a Wickham or a Willoughby in your future… #200PnPCovers

#pemberlittens. I have this mini series, four episodes. @sprainedbrain thoughts?

sprainedbrain I want to watch that! I was thinking it would be a good ‘in-between‘ one of these months for a watch party, since it doesn‘t really follow a specific book. 4y

I re-read this choose-your-own-adventure book for #PemberLittens. I got to meet Emma Woodhouse this time around! My favorite ending, though, had me getting shot by Lady Catherine during a duel between Mr. Darcy and Col. Fitzwilliam. 🤣

Has anyone ordered from Thrift Books and not been happy? This book arrived with this on the back cover. I am going to email them about it. 😢

Laughterhp Yes. They are pretty good about sending you a replacement. And they usually don‘t make you mail the book back to them. 4y
Graciouswarriorprincess @Laughterhp Thank you. I just emailed them. 4y

Graciouswarriorprincess @TrishB I haven‘t ordered from them for a while because my last order wasn‘t right. I decided to try again but a bit disappointed as this book was listed very good. 4y

Patchshank I've never had a problem with thriftbook. Hopefully they'll refund it or send a replacement. That's pretty gross and sticky looking. 4y

Porgmaster Thriftbooks is usually amazing. I just recieved a book from them in mint condition for a fairly low price. Just make sure you pick the good condition ones because you can buy some that are in poor condition if that's an option. 4y

Graciouswarriorprincess @SW-T I hope so. @Patchshank I thought about trying to clean it but no. @RamsFan1963 I hope that your order is okay. @Porgmaster I only order very good and this book was listed as that way so I am not sure if someone just didn‘t notice it. @LeahBergen @Megabooks 👍🏻 (edited) 4y

I read the eversion of this book. And while I thought I was going to really enjoy it, it ended up being kinda meh for me. I got tired of keeping score and found it created too many interruptions in the story. I, that is my character, broke my neck and died pretty early on, so I tried alternative paths. I ended up with 3 other conclusions and called it a day. 2.5/5⭐️

I love Austen. I loved choose-your-own-adventure books as a kid. I did not like this book.

I found myself always choosing to do what Elizabeth did in P&P. Because I want to marry Mr. Darcy in the same way she did. Duh. After I finished, I realized I should have just reread P&P, or watched the movie.

So, I went back and tried some other paths, which I didn‘t like because I WANT TO MARRY DARCY.

Gave up on the silly scoring pretty early.😂

emtobiasz I just got this from the library. I opened it to find that I needed to keep score, and considered returning it immediately. Seeing your review, I think I‘m going to give in to that impulse. 😬 4y

This was a fun choose your own adventure romp through Austenland! You set out in the role of Elizabeth Bennett, with a mission to marry for love, avoiding family scandal along the way. I killed Mr. Collins, found myself at Northanger Abbey, and was killed by Miss Bingley before finding my way to Mr. Darcy and wedded bliss.

This choose your own adventure book is fun!

Bkwurm Woo Mama, it‘s hard not to help sometimes! But good for you, you‘re doing the right thing in the long run! Is that the book the Lost In Austen miniseries is based on? I never knew it was CYOA!! 5y
alisiakae @Bkwurm it‘s not easy! No, this book is unrelated to the tv series. It turns the original story into a CYOA. I just married Mr. Collins and then proceeded to accidentally kill him by throwing a book at his head. 😂 5y

If you loved Choose Your Own Adventure books as much as I did as a kid and adore Austen, this might just be up our alley. It‘s good, silly fun. You can choose to keep score or not, it‘s flexible that way. There are so many endings and I tried to get to them all but I may have missed a few. Most end, amusingly, in death or unhappy marriages but there‘s one where you get Darcy.

Elizabeth Bennet, because she‘s feisty, intuitive, knows her mind, but needs a little nudge (aka a trip to Pemberley) to finally realize to whom her feelings truly lie.

Jess_Read_This Lucky you! I love getting the house to myself. What are you watching? 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Laura317 Lost in Austen, it's technically a miniseries from the U.K. The main character is from modern day England and switches places with Elizabeth Bennet. While the modern girl struggles with the manners and characters she tries to keep on track, Elizabeth is off enjoying the modern world. So the original story, with a twist, some time travel, and fish out of water fun. And @Jess_Read_This (edited) 7y
Jess_Read_This @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Oh! That sounds really good!! 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Jess_Read_This It's quite fun, just her being there throws off the whole story she loves so much, and the more she tries to nudge it back on track the worse it gets. So you get odd alternative versions of the story as well. 7y
Jhullie Terrific mini series. I watch it regularly, I love how she keeps trying to get the story back on track. 7y

You play as Elizabeth Bennett and make choices and answer questions which can result in adding it losing points in fortune, intelligence, and confidence. Your are Elizabeth Bennet, a tolerable beauty with moderate accomplishments, on a mission to marry prudently and for love. With wit and common sense you must navigate the world of Jane Austen (all your fave characters and locations are here!) while avoiding scandals and suitors with less than noble intentions.
One wrong choice could bring shame to your family, but the right choices will bring you to your happily ever after.

Down the rabbit hole of the Create Your Own Jane Austen Adventure.
I have failed twice on my mission to marry both prudently and for love; the first time derailed by becoming prisoner to Fanny Price; the second time Emma Woodhouse ditches me and I'm stuck with Mr. Elton who is trampled to death by my father's horses and am blamed by the general public, tried, and wrongfully imprisoned for killing a man of the cloth.
Tragic.
