Reading for class I'm teaching. Excited to share this with teenagers. Any suggestions of what key points I should bring up and how? #tenthgrade #englishteacher

OSChamberlain Wish my teachers were cool enough to teach this 😒 I've never even read it. 8y
Sammie Sad! We are reading a bunch of cool books! Even a graphic novel! 8y
APLitlife I teach 10th grade also, but they read Animal Farm in 8th grade where I teach. Great book. 8y

...presumably with the idea that once a man learnt to drink tea, the other habits and qualities that make up a Briton would naturally follow. 😂😂

This book is so amazing. It is clever and British. I appreciate the lack of medieval setting. Probably will use this in my doctoral dissertation 😂

BarbaraTheBibliophage It's been on my TBR forever. I know I'll love it! 8y

The story is, itself, a spell. Why would we want to break it?

Definitely the weirdest Twain I've read but tackles 1870s racism in a brilliant and fascinating satire. 10/10

I have finally got around to checking this out and so far don't get all the hype. It's fun but not like /amazing/. Anyone tell me what I'm missing?

Sue I'm not entirely sure myself, but my 13 yr old daughter has almost worn out her copies of this series as she has reread it so many times. 8y
[DELETED] 2527913457 I read the first four. Enjoyable but not my favorite YA. I quit when they became monotonous. 8y
Sammie Maybe these are the kind of YA that primarily appeals to that age group as opposed to John Green 8y

Brittany13 It's not that it appeals to young fiction readers, it's the context of the novel. How the author makes readers fall in love with her characters, how every move is unpredictable, how readers can connect with these characters and feel what they're feeling. I would highly suggested reading her books. 8y
Sammie @Brittany13 I have read 2 of them and don't like her characters or her plots. Clary is a Mary Sue. Her gay characters are just conveniently gay. Not really putting that issue in proper context. I would not recommend them to my high schoolers 8y
Brittany13 @Sammie I must say we will have to agree to disagree, but I respect your opinion. 8y

Written in 1790, this book has surprisingly free female characters. Most of the time wen couldn't act without male presence, but did a few times. Female desire was regarded highly and the book was very anti-parental forced marriages.
