Grapes of Wrath | John Steinbeck
post image

Last week of school starts tomorrow! I began Grapes of Wrath with my Honors 11 class to prep for AP next year. We will get through the first third to start their summer reading. Honestly, I‘m loving it. It is probably sacrilege to admit for an English teacher but I haven‘t read it before.

AmyG I read this in high school and it was a struggle. I read it again 30 years later and loved it! It‘s never too late to read a great book. (edited) 10mo
Tamra I highly recommend reading this one if you can this summer. Allegedly the publisher gave Babbs‘ field notes to Steinbeck (w/o permission or acknowledgement) and her book deal was cancelled after Grapes was published. It‘s a slim volume and I loved it. 10mo
Saknicole @Tamra thanks for the rec! I‘ll definitely pick that up this summer! 10mo

Tamra @Saknicole 👍🏾 I hope you like it! It deserves to be read for sure. 10mo
Kimberlone This is such a beautiful book. Read it for the first time in Forster‘s American Lit class! 10mo
Kimberlone My only negative about this book is that it was clearly an inspiration for one of my most hated books 10mo

Such a great read for any #EnglishTeacher to read. This gave me a lot of ideas and I loved listening to Chazev's personal anecdotes weaved throughout the narrative.

I hope you guy's don't mind me doing a bit of self boasting I have no one else to tell.
Tonight I finally finished my TEFL studies and exam. Woohoo one step closer to working abroad teaching English in person not just online. (There's a small quiet one woman party going down in my living room right now 🥂🎉 )😃👍 #readyforthefuture #teachertraining #englishteacher #jbuk

Caroline2 @kaysworld1 Oh exciting! 😀 I nearly went to China but it fell through. When I came back I taught at my local college. Then took a career break when I had the kids, not gone back yet!!! 😆 3y

Another PD book for the summer. I think that there is some white savior complex within this guidebook/toolbox, though some of the social good ideas are great for teachers. I would recommend reading, but I just want you to be aware that we need to be careful not look at other cultures through one specific lens.

Summer PD reading. This book gave some solid information about how to address digital equity (which is well beyond the idea that equality means access). If you are looking to learn more about digital equity, this is a great start.

This is what I read to my English classes for #firstchaptermonday today. I haven't read it yet (other than the first chapter, lol!), but it's next on my TBR list! #teachersoflitsy #englishteacher

Dcueto I really liked this series! 5y
CoffeeNBooks @Dcueto I've heard it's a great series! I have the entire series in my classroom library, but haven't read them yet. 5y

CoffeeNBooks @Dcueto I'm planning to start Asylum when I go to the library with my classes on Friday. Would it be wrong to refuse to check it out to anyone before then because I want to read it, lol?! 5y
Dcueto Ha! I always do that. I tell them I‘m making sure it‘s appropriate 😜 5y
Dcueto Btw, I think it‘s awesome that you model reading for them. It‘s so important for them to see readers 5y

This is what I chose to start reading today for Library Friday. Every Friday, all of my English classes go to the school library so my students can read whatever they choose for the entire class period. #teachersoflitsy #englishteacher #librarylove

JaclynW I love that your classes do this! Nice! 5y
