I've been trying out romance novels through Libby and thought I'd give Beverly Jenkins a try (also happens to be a great #readharder pick for romance written by an aoc!) . I'm so glad I tried it because I thoroughly enjoyed this steamy historical featuring smart, saucy underground railroad conductors finding love and freeing slaves like the bad asses they are.

I've given up tracking time for #24in48 because i keep forgetting my timer, but who cares!! I just finished the first chapter of this baby and i don't think i'm ever putting it down 🤗🤓

My #weneeddiversebooks ... On our shelves entry to #24in48. I dont make notes in my books very often, but this book touched me to my core. I learned a lot about Iran and Tehran, and that the city is a literary and cultural hub that i never imagined it to be by listening to the news. I learned about the fragility of our own freedoms but also how these women will fight for themselves. All these ladies had very different beliefs, but...

My first book of the day is Edith Hamilton's Mythology, to check off the mythology/folklore box on the #readharder challenge 😁

For some reason, even though i finished it, i wasn't really into the first book, Six of Crows. I'm SO glad i bought into the cliff hanger though and checked out the second book from library because It. Is. AMAZING!! I'm loving all the characters and the world and the humor and the badassery. Definitely going to check out the other books from Bardugo's universe!!

I LOVED the audiobook! (Admittedly, i partially loved the narrator's british accent...) But mostly i loved seeing Monty grow and learn empathy alongside his companions. Aaand pirates! Science! Badass women!!! (I cant wait to read the other book about Felicity!!)

This bit made me smile - Gilgi's excitement bubbles off the page!

"When I watch you read this book, it's like you're forcing yourself to eat a bad sandwich" -my partner watching me read this book. It did bring on some stank face - violence, gore, dead baby rabbits... It felt like Lord of the Flies but more devistating and with rape and the occasional mention of modern tech. It grew on me toward the end, and you can get some kind of girl power from it, but it was not a pleasure to read. Happy to be done!

1984 might be one of the most terrifying books I've read. I worked at a bookstore when this was selling out on Amazon and we couldn't get copies bc the warehouse was out of them. I understand this book now in the light of this admin... Hold on your reality folks because the past must not cease to exist!!

#24in48 hour 4 (because I came down with the flu early yesterday 😷 I picked this up from a friend 1) because I listened to By The Book podcast and was intrigued and 2) I'm moving to NYC - the perfect opportunity to let things go and find new places for everything.

I was critical of a few details, and I don't think I want to live my life the way marie kondo lives hers, but there are some helpful perspectives and tips here.

When the war began, Irene Gut was just 17: a student nurse, a Polish patriot, a good Catholic girl. Forced to work in a German officers' dining hall, she learned how to fight back.

This looks like an interesting and up-close perspective. TBR?

Anyone remember this whimsy of a book? I used to read the riddles to my mom, and got upset when she could answer them right away 🙄 she's a puzzle genious though, so it shouldn't come as a surprise.

There are few characters you can hate as purely as you can hate Delores Jane Umbridge 😝 Her cruelty and intense fear of difference is astounding.
