The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing | Marie Kondo
This #1New York Times best-selling guide to decluttering your home from Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes readers step-by-step through her revolutionary KonMari Method for simplifying, organizing, and storing.Despite constant efforts to declutter your home, do papers still accumulate like snowdrifts and clothes pile up like a tangled mess of noodles?Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, youll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever. The KonMari Method, with its revolutionary category-by-category system, leads to lasting results. In fact, none of Kondos clients have lapsed (and she still has a three-month waiting list). With detailed guidance for determining which items in your house spark joy (and which dont), this international bestseller featuring Tokyos newest lifestyle phenomenon will help you clear your clutter and enjoy the unique magic of a tidy homeand the calm, motivated mindset it can inspire. From the Hardcover edition.

Heard so much about Marie Kondo that the book fell a bit short. Enjoyed reading this on the art of tidying up where she suggests to sort things by category instead of rooms, tackle each category at one go, and discard anything that doesn‘t bring joy after thanking that thing. It was an interring read and looking forward to applying her methods and seeing her show on Netflix. #NFNov

This past week I‘ve been KonMarie-ing my stuff to adjust to relocating back to America, going through a breakup, and preparing for a new job and another relocation. Yesterday I finished the stage of discarding books, and I‘m happy to bid a bittersweet goodbye to 164 of them.

Books bring me joy, but the ability to pick up and move easily and live life to the fullest gives me a sense of purpose and joy in my life as well.

When this book came out, I didn‘t think I needed it. I‘m good at organizing and being neat. Recently, I decided I want to minimize my possessions and work to let go of momentos. This book meets me exactly where I am in life; needing to let go of the past and live in the present. This book is about so much more than decluttering; it‘s about tidying your life. 💙 Soon I will start tidying my clothes. Doubt I will let go of very many books. 😉

#bfcr2 midweek update and photo challenge post! Good week so far. This book has helped me a TON. I‘m in the process of more cleaning, but these shelves use to have a double row of books & more clutter 😂 Having a clean space around me helps me better focus on things like fitness, nutrition, even relaxing with a book. Clutter stresses me out! @KathyWheeler @Emilymdxn @RachelO @Megabooks @cobwebmoth @Trashcanman @wanderinglynn @TheEllieMo

TheSpineView I hate clutter and feel out of sorts when my house is messy. 5mo
Cortg OMG! I‘m in the same boat. We moved all of our bedrooms around last week! Kid 1 went to the guest room downstairs, kid 2 went to kid 1‘s room and the guest room went to kid 2‘s room. Lady_Tigana_20 I love her books. She is the only person who ever really motivated me to deal with my mess. I redid my closet and folded my son‘s and my clothes—way better than the stuff-it-in-drawer method I had been using. 😂Books are next on the list. 5mo

Marie Kondo has a wonderfully unique perspective on how to take care of the things we own. She has such respect and gratitude for everything, and she truly tries to remind people to be intentional about the things we owned. The book got repetitive at the end, but it was wonderful overall. Her ideas have come in handy while I'm cleaning my room! 😊

Honestly this book was just so-so for me. I much prefer her Netflix series and am quite happy that I watched it before reading the book, had it been in reverse I probably wouldn‘t have watched the show. While there are moments in the book that I enjoyed overall I felt it was repetitive and impractical. I definitely don‘t see myself (or anyone I know) drying their dishes out on a porch or veranda.

jb72 I wondered if the book got lost in translation. I read the book then watched the show. I felt the show really held up better than the book. 6mo

I have very mixed feelings about this one. On one hand, I did not connect to the more spiritual elements of the book, that‘s not how my brain works. On the other hand, I did like the method of going through all you have in a category, like clothes, at once in one big day of sorting. I usually don‘t clear out clutter like that and it sounded like a good idea.

I don‘t keep books if I didn‘t love them. My problem isn‘t books I‘ve read, it‘s the stacks I‘ve purchased after 2.5 years on Litsy and an ever-increasing Mount TBR.

I am letting go of some possessions I haven‘t used in years. This will hopefully make room for all of those potentially joy-sparking books! Greater happiness? Yes, I am here for it!

Was anyone else skeptical of Marie Kondo‘s take on tidying up? I was, but her new Netflix series “Tidying Up” piqued my interest. So, I checked out Marie Kondo‘s audiobook, “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up,” on Libby. By the time the introduction was over, I found myself folding laundry Marie Kondo style into little rectangles that stand up on their own. It didn‘t take reading this book to realize I have much tidying I need to do in my life. Not sure if I found reading this to be inspirational, motivating or overwhelming. I did appreciate her recommendation for approaching tidying and was grateful for her encouragement for letting go of things without feeling a sense of loss or guilt in releasing the extra stuff. For me the process will have to be slower than the author recommends though.

Emilymdxn I have a system for sorting childhood books! Idk if I‘ll work for you but I always think to myself, would it matter in the future for me to have this exact copy again, or just to be able to get hold of a copy? If I know I‘ll value having my exact copy for emotional reasons I keep it. If I‘d just like to know I could find it again, I check if it‘s still in print, keep careful record on LibraryThing so I don‘t forget it and give away. 10mo

Emilymdxn I get emotional giving books I loved away and don‘t get rid of important gifts, books that were my ‘first‘ anything, books with writing in them. What happens when you KonMari your kids‘ books with the help of an 8yo and 5yo? It gets a little messy and chaotic... but in the end you get rid of 159 books!!

Which still leaves 698 kids‘ books in the house... plus the ones I know we have loaned out... we have under 750 now though! Which is pretty good since we were well over 900. 😂😳❤️📚 But now they all fit on the shelves, with only two small boxes of seasonal books up in the closet!
