The gossip in me loved this juicy morsel of a book. But I also have to wonder how much better it would have been if a woman wrote it. I understand sensationalism sells but it would have been that much more sensational to read more content dealing with these amazing women lifting each other up rather than tearing each other down.
A review called this “The Devil wears Prada meets Dexter”. A more accurate description would be American Psycho set in the fashion world. Without the nihilism. And, like American Psycho, it gets tedious after a while.

Confession: my favorite book in the world is Moby Dick. I have reread it once a year since I was twelve and first discovered it. I am almost fifty now and find something new every time I read it. I collect different editions of Moby Dick. So imagine my delight in finding this topsy-turvy version of my favorite story in the world. It took my breath away. My yearly reread will be enriched by this retelling.
This book was so so good. I knocked it out in one sitting, about a couple of hours. I have never been this satisfied and dissatisfied with the ending of a book. It was moving and wonderful and terrible. And you need to read it.
As I was browsing through FB, I came upon an ad for a mystery and the blurb was Eleanor Oliphant meets Karin Slaughter maybe? I do temember the Eleanor Oliphant part clearly because it made me want to read it. I also saw an ad for a fiction book about a woman who is raised by survivalists and escapes and goes on a rampage. Both were kindle books supposedly published in August. If anyone can point me to either ine I will be eternally grateful.
I bawled my eyes out at the laundromat over this one. It just hit me in all the feels. The lady who works there was so concerned! I felt bad that I made her worry. Needless to say, I am highly recommending this book!
One of the items on my bucket list has been to go to a live performance of Phantom. Today I get to do it! I am so excited!
I was sadly disappointed by this one. Maybe ot was all the buildup but I found it underwhelming. It is not a bad book, don‘t get me wrong, but not as awesome as it was billed to be.
This one counts! Black Dagger Brotherhood. All of them. Also Barbara Delinski. Bertrice Small. And Barbara Cartland whom I happily read for hours at my grandmother‘s home. Judy Blume. I am sure I will think of many more!
The one book I am DYING to read and of course it isn‘t out until the ens of the month. Boo. If anyone has read it, is it as good as I hope it is? Spoilers don‘t bother me one bit. I like to be prepared!
This book has mesmerized me. To be a witness to history like Beck was? How incredible is that? And then I got to the part when President Obama spoke at the funeral of Reverend Clementa Pinkney and sang Amazing Grace. And how proud everyone felt of this President. I just burst into tears. I mean, look where we are now. How did we go from that - that hope, that pride - to this disastrous, treasonous situation? How? It boggles my mind.
I disliked this book for the same reason I disliked the movie Closer. There is nothing redeeming about the protagonists. They are just awful. But, much like I rewatched Closer over and over for a period of time, I have been reading and rereading this book over and over. I don‘t know what that says about me. Maybe I keep hoping to find something good in them. I won‘t though.
I read this book for the first time on Memorial Day weekend. I had it a while before that but was saving it for the holiday trip. I finished it in a couple of hours of frantic page turning and a mounting sense of dread given the current political climate. And since finishing it -and after a few re-reads- this is the thought that keeps running through my head, “This could never happen. Could it, though?”
What amazed me the most about this book is that even though it explores the heaviest of issues, its portrayal of this whole reality tv fame moment and the extremes people will go to retain their so-called 15 minutes of fame is the most horrific thing of all. It is also beautifully written and I could not put it down.
Creepy, unsettling and intense. In the best way possible.
Nora never fails me. Finding this at bedtime does not bode well for me. Who needs sleep anyway?
Reading Beth Flynn's Nine Minutes and Out of Time ahead of the final book in the trilogy: A Gift of Time which comes out 7/19/16. I can't resist a guy with tats on a motorcycle. Or a book that I still have dreams about over a year after reading it!
One of my favorite summer reads is always by Elin Hilderbrand. She makes me want to vacation in Nantucket!
