Fremdes Land: Roman | Thomas Sautner
Pickpick

Not what I thought it was gonna be, but still really good. Very 1984ish, but at the same time also quite different - it's really hard to express the atmosphere of and in this book.
I was fascinated by how blind the main character - Jack Blind - was to what was going on. That created an interesting tension between him and me as an all-knowing reader.

And socialworkers were mentioned, so: definitely a pick!

Still got almost no time to read, but since I'm in Vienna for some anti-racism conferences, I simply couldn't resist visiting my all time favorite bookstore. As you can see, I didn't just visit though...

Americanah is your fault by the way! #blameitonlitsy

Diese 12 kafkaesken Kurzgeschichten zum Thema Flüchtlinge lassen einen lange nicht mehr los. Mich selbst haben die meisten wirklich zum Nachdenken gebracht. Klare Empfehlung!

So I fell asleep every time I tried to watch the movie, because it's too slow for me. And now that I've read the short story behind it, I wonder how that's even possible, because it seems to just skip really quickly through Benjamin's life...

The Crane Wife | Patrick Ness

Patrick Ness' first lines never fail to pull me right into the story :)

On the previous page he writes "In her dreams, she flies." - love that quote!

(I'm not that good with photochallenges, because I travel around too much without the proper books, but I just had to join in on this one!)

Read the real story (not the Disney one) for the first time and wow, that ending wasn't what I expected! Kinda liked it though, except for the very last part that just seems to be in there to make kids behave...

Once again on the train - with books and tea of course!
Reading this reminds me how much I love Mr. Fitzgerald's writing style - definitely like it so far :)

Through many of you fellow littens I got to know Serial Reader and yesterday I finally decided to try it out. Started with something small, but I already love the concept!
Might have to get the upgrade though, so I can skip forward...

Just finished this one in one session. Felt like reading something "light" tonight and it fitted perfectly. Nice distraction, quite open-minded and made me laugh a lot.
Definitely a good pick if you just want to forget the world for a little while ;)

Sitting in the kids area of my Dr.s waiting room, because there's no other seat left. He really has a terrible collection of kids books lying around. Lucky I packed my kindle!

In fear of the inevitable spoilers by the upcoming movie (which will only be out in January over here -.-), I'm starting this one tonight :)

Finished! It's dark, it's critical, it's feminist, it's magical - it's great! And beautifully written. I really enjoyed this very different approach to the Arthurian legend and I learned quite a lot too.

The quote from the picture would translate as "My love for you is my prayer, she thought, love is the only prayer I know."

youngish-adult One of my favorites! 8y

I'm really jealous of all you guys for having #bannedbooks week at your libraries and book stores! Would love to have that over here too - just realized through your posts how many books have been banned and I think it's a great way to get some attention on this issue.

I enjoyed all the banned books I have read so far - Catcher being the first one and I still love the magic of the natural history museum-scene :)

"Yes, yes" said the Beast, "my heart is good, but still I am a monster."
"Among mankind" says Beauty, "there are many that deserve that name more than you, and I prefer you, just as you are, to those, who, under a human form, hide a treacherous, corrupt, and ungrateful heart."

Just picked this up again almost a year after I last read it and immediately found the place where I left off (without a bookmark!) - simply love the way she's telling the legend of Arthur!

Perfect fit for me and my rocking chair after a long day of writing applications...

On my way back home now and just finished this one. Really enjoyed it! Especially the idea of not writing about "the chosen one", but just some more or less normal people. Great humor and great approach to the perks of being a teenager!
Then again I just love Patrick Ness, so maybe I'm not the best judge...

still feel a little overwhelmed and lost though - anyone else feeling that way?

so, right now i'm on a 3h train ride - i guess #patrickness will get me through just fine ;)

MrBook Welcome to @Litsy ! I think you'll like it here 😊👍🏻. 8y
