🚨 it does talk about Adoption and Postpartum Psychosis in the story, incase that‘s an issue for you

Read it for book club this month. I loved how I thought I had it figured out but then came curveballs to keep throwing me off. Which of course kept me reading so I could figure out what happened.

The dogs names bothered me and I felt he was brought up way too much in the story…..but that‘s neither here nor there, just my own feelings 😆

We read this for book club and I enjoyed it, the others attending, not so much! While most found the mother-daughter relationship toxic (and not saying they‘re wrong) I could relate to it. I too had a very dependent relationship with my mother…even when married. It caused issues, forced me to work on myself, and stand on my own. I learned marriage is work and not always sparks and butterfly‘s. So I felt some of what Katy was going through.

This was my pick for BOTM and I really enjoyed it!! I thought the story flowed well and kept my attention. The twist at the end was one I didn‘t see coming. I almost want to re-read it now knowing what I know.

Well, what a wild ride that was….

I love jumping into books without knowing much about them. So, for the 1st few chapters I was super confused as to what was happening, lol! But after that, it became a book unlike anything I‘ve ever read before.

Same day. Same murder. Different guests. Solve it.
But remember, nothing is ever as it seems!

…and while you try to figure out the murder, 20 other questions pop up in between.

I‘d never heard of this book, nor the author. But my husband knows I love crows and picked it up for me on a whim one day based solely on the cover.

Holy cow, it turned out to be such a great read!! Two books in one. A handful of characters which you have to try and keep straight. A quaint setting including a mansion. Death. It brought to mind the game Clue and how, if it was a book, this would probably be it.

This would have been a DNF for me if I hadn‘t been reading it for book club..

I felt like the author had her own story between Nan and Finbarr that she wanted to tell. She knew it wasn‘t going to be good enough for a stand alone, so she found a story of someone famous to intertwine it with.

By page 100 I was losing interest and purchased it on audible to help me finish. #itsanoforme

While I didn‘t find this as great as Daisy Jones, I still liked it. Found it to be a solid story about Mick and his family. But definitely not one I feel the need keep on the shelf and re-read.

Though, I did love how when the party was taking place at Nina‘s, I could feel my anxiety rise, the overwhelm, as more and more characters were introduced by “arriving at the party.” I think it drove home how Nina was feeling at that exact same time.

I thought the book was entertaining right from the start. Set in old Hollywood, how could it not be 🤷‍♀️ it also created great conversations at the book club meeting!

My favorite line in the book was on page 141 “Heartbreak is loss. Divorce is a piece of paper”. So straight to the point, no nonsense…..just like Evelyn Hugo

I was able to score this original 1943 edition for under $25 thanks to Mercari!! Still in decent condition too👏 I love old cookbooks and my grandma always swore by Tollhouse ❤️
