Doing what it sets out to do, this book provides a history of the women who unknowing enriched uranium for the first atomic bombs in a secret rural pop-up town.

Following a few women from beginning to end, the history becomes personal while the author remains objective.

My take away from this is an anger and sadness at a culture that fordbids questions.
This is how terrible things are done: secretly and with unquestioning complicity.

Beautifully written.

I love fiction for letting me briefly live a life that doesn't intersect with my mid-west experience, so I appreciated the insight into the Caribbean.

A novel about starting over and moving forward, it reads as both personal for the characters and biographical of the region.

Isaac Fitzgerald sold it pretty hard on the Today show, which is a pretty solid endorsement.

I had a hard time keeping reading momentum for the first third of this book, but then it warped into something more experimental and wonderful.

Having spent a few weeks in California this summer, I was delighted at the references to places I've recently been. (Such a Joshua Tree - pictured, and Yosemite.)

It gets weird, and that's when it really gets good.

The selection of travel books for England at the library heavily imply that London is the most visit-worthy place in the country.

Incredibly compelling, this novel reads like a movie. (Maybe because I already knew that the author has done screenplays before.)

Full of unlikable characters and unlikable actions, the rompy plot and rotating perspectives keep you plunging forward to inevitable catastrophe.

I was super pumped to find this in a #littlefreelibrary last weekend.
Octavia Butler has been on my list for a few months. I actually didn't love her writing style, but the time-travel historical science fiction concept won me over. #freelittlelibrary

I was so prepared to love this. There are some bright, thoughtful, and silly moments that I appreciated, but the sexism and racism were unexpected and really killed it for me.

But also, we should stop valuing money over the environment. Who cares how much money you have if you have to live in a wasteland? #shortsightednesskills

This isn't your typical memoir-ish comedy book. Aziz teamed up with social researchers to look into love and dating today. Aziz is one of my favorites for being funny, being feminist, confronting racism, and being smart about it all.

Krakauer always does obsessive (which is to say, appropriate) amounts of research and this is no exception. He weaves a compelling narrative of specific events that leave you questioning the larger picture.
