I could live with the Jekyll and Hyde connection—I anticipated it from the title and the cover, and I even looked forward to seeing how it would pan out, but at some point I wish the author had taken Coco Chanel‘s advice and taken a couple of accessories/allusions off before publishing.
Country house mystery that turns out to be more complicated. Delightful to get a sort of origin story for some of the things from the Peculiar Crimes Unit like Arthur‘s striped scarf and yellow Mini.

This book has a really nice story with plenty of twists and turns like the river itself, but what I really love about Diane Setterfield‘s book The Thirteenth Tale and this one is how atmospheric and textural they are.
