A Day of Fallen Night | 
pickIt's a nice idea to do kind of the same, but in a different period of time. In the Priory I needed some time to get to know to world and the magic system, whereas in this book it was clear from the start, giving more space to enjoy the plot.
I do feel like I need to read this one once more to really get everything, but that won't be punishment. I loved the femininity!

so-soI don't know why, but I wasn't super invested in characters. They didn't feel relatable enough.
The world was amazing but this didn't feel as mysterious as I would have preferred. Honestly this felt like the same story as in Priory with different - and not likewise intriguing - characters.
This was okay, but this didn't deliver what I had expected.

A few days late, but here is my July wrap up. A Day of Fallen Night was my favorite read of the month. Samantha Shannon never disappoints with her amazing books.
pickA Day of Fallen Night includes Shannon‘s meticulous charactercrafting which is another notable element. Protagonists must navigate supernatural dangers, as well as internal and emotional conflicts as well as the ethical and moral implications, adding layers of depth to the story.....

I'm working my way through the Fitz and the Fool 2nd trilogy at the moment. Once I've finished that it's either this or Acotar next....
Does anyone know if it's possible to get this without the New York Times imprint on the cover? (As a paperback.) I would also love no words on the moon but at least that doesn't interfere with the cover artwork. I abhor that they do this to covers. And it is literally printed into the cover and not a removable sticker. Why do they do this!? 😡
pickThe prequel to Priory of the Orange Tree, I enjoyed this just as much. This is epic storytelling with a rotating selection of narrators. We begin by following 3 different women from 3 different cities. Although they don't know each other, their stories become intertwined as they fight a common enemy. There is political intrigue, and I felt I learned a lot more about the Priory. Overall, I enjoyed my time with this book.
When you‘re reading the ebook version of a chunkster and want to see physically how far along in the book you are… 🤦♀️ Turns out, not far at all!
I was going to switch back and forth from the ebook version because this book is just way too big to hold while reading!

pickA glorious, epic, feminist, fantasy masterpiece !!! This prequel to The Priory of the Orange Tree had me acting out scenes and saying lines out loud, it was that beautiful, badass, and moving.
My reading companion has not budged since 8am. I've come and gone repeatedly, but always drawn back to his snuggly warmth and Day of fallen night.

I did enjoy all the different characters but you need to pay attention.the writing was descriptive and the world building was awesome and such diversity was just well done !
Making a dent in this one, lucky for me this is a 3 days weekend, avoided the bastille day fire works yesterday and just the right temps for hammock reading
I am starting to get my bearings again in that world, but work will get in the way of reading...
My library has a summer borrowing plan when you can get 15 documents out for 5 weeks... Most of the ones i was looking for were already out ;)

Even though it's not quite as good as Priory, A Day of Fallen Night wins the #fiction bracket for April. But the events in The Darkness has just about stayed in my mind longer.
It's a tough call between The Postscript Murders and The Darkness, but as I have put 'Bleeding Heart Yard' (#3 in the Harbinder Kaur series by Elly Griffiths) on my #alphabeticalbingo master list, I'm going with The Postscript Murders (#2 in the series)

pickIt took me 2 years to finish The Priory of the Orange Tree, but I had a strict 3 week limit to listen to the audio of this from Libby that I pushed to the final moment. Like Priory, it was just too long (38 hours on audio!) and followed too many characters. Again there were romances that seemed to come out of nowhere and the dragon stuff still confused me (what are their motivations?!). Tuva and the Priory were my favorite character/setting.
pickThis book is huge! It took a month to complete it. It was so worth it. I really loved all the love stories in this book. Glorian was definitely my favorite character. Her fight for independence was inspiring.I will be reading more from this author!

pickAs epic as Priory, if not quite as many twists. Great to be back in this world, brilliant storytelling. Shannon is a go to author for me now, can‘t wait for the new Paige novel.

pickThis was definitely a slower read than Priory, but I didn‘t mind. I took my time with it so it was more like a slow burn. I did still absolutely love it though. Some story lines were better than others (the North) whereas in Priory I loved each of them, here I found myself waiting for the specific chapters if that makes sense. Still a 5 star read! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We are *engrossed* in this beautiful Sapphic fantasy. I love the plot and she loves the 880 pages of hardcover for rubs.

pickFor being 500 years before the PotOT, it connects incredibly well. Like wow. The wyrms have come, it‘s the Sorrowful Years, a story we know from PotOT. That is usually difficult to portray, but not here. This story followed the firsts direction as a feminist queer fantasy. Felt like more dragons. As an epic again: 846 pages that have much, yet not enough. I felt for Dumai and Glorian the most, how they both affect the PotOT in the future.
