4⭐ I went into this thinking it was a picture book and it‘s not. It‘s a short graphic novel about a boy and his grandmother. His grandmother is a Jew who immigrated from America and her memory isn‘t always what it should be. These two spend the day going around New York City collecting things they will need for dinner, but a lot of the stores and things have disappeared. The reader sees many flashbacks of grandmother‘s life and her adventures and

LibrarianRyan her not liking modern things. This was a lovely day in the life, and while I may not understand all the Jewish elements, I understand the grandmother and the grandchild. The story was lovely, and the illustrations are quite bleak, which I think fits the story. It makes one feel that time is passing and how the illustrator has done the modern times, and all these grays in browns in the past and bright vivid colors really works and helps set the 6d
LibrarianRyan the story off. While I have no idea who I would recommend this book to. I am glad that I have read it and I think it has helped me grow more as a person. 6d

3 ⭐ I really wanted to like this book. This book is about a student who is not happy that it‘s picture day. They wear their hat all the time. She uses this hat to because she has a face full of freckles. They feel different from their classmates and the last thing they want is to have their picture taken. Her classmates take her in hand, and they come up with a perfect idea to get the perfect picture day.

LibrarianRyan . It also takes too long to set up that the big hat is because of freckles. I do love how the kids all get in on making our main character feel better about themselves, but overall, this book has been done better, and this one is not memorable. 6d

3 ⭐This is a so-called interactive children‘s picture book where the reader is given instructions to do with the book that creates the action on the next page. Press Here was the best, and now the standard which I measure these books against. While the illustrations are lovely and top-notch, the story is a bit long and the instructions don‘t seem to be as playful as the standard bearer.

2 ⭐This book is supposed to be about processing loss and I‘m not sure I get it.This character has a balloon. They have fabulous adventures, but the character knows that eventually the balloon will go away. We follow along the adventures until one day, the balloon is handed off to another character, as if instead of saying goodbye, it‘s saying it‘s time to move on \ I don‘t think it gets the point they‘re trying to make.

4 ⭐ This was quite a lovely read. The story rhymes and it takes you through a journey of all the things a child could be when they grow up. I don‘t mean things like a fireman or a doctor but things like kind be a thinker be a traveler. It was lovely and lyrical, and the illustrations have this soft, so realistic quality that is just enjoyable to turn every page.

3 ⭐ What the F did I just read. This story is at times hard to follow and a tad bit disturbing. At the same time you want to know what happens next. It‘s like the car crash you can‘t look away from. I‘m not even sure where the title comes from. You have two characters. One is a popular girl, and the other is a geeky nerdy boy. They end up stuck together because of UFOs and evil spirits. They must find a way to work together,

LibrarianRyan exercise the Demons, and not get tortured. The beginning of this book is very rapey. There is no rape but it‘s very rapey. Plus, the emphasis on schlongs, the having and not having of them, as well as the quite frequent gratuitous semi naked girl who is supposed to be in high school is a bit much for this reader. I like the story when it‘s being crazy, I don‘t like the story when it‘s being unnecessarily sexual because it‘s done in such a way as 6d
LibrarianRyan being degrading to women. I am interested enough to see what happens in book 2 to see where this goes, but if I‘m more storylines doesn‘t start taking shape this will be a short series. 6d

3 ⭐ This book is a connector. It‘s called Robin and we meet Robin, but it isn‘t really about Robin. It‘s about the Teen Titans finally coming together and starting to figure out their powers and what is going, on who is HIVE and what do they want. This book is very much filler, and get you exactly nowhere. I do like with the story arc is going and hope it continues but also hope that the wait isn‘t as long for the next book.

4.5 ⭐ This is the second book in the series, and it is adorable. Sloths are exactly how you expect them to be… slow. And our little girl, Sasha Patient Pruitt is fast. She wants to go swimming, but she hast to wait for Mr. Sloth, which means she hat to find her patience. She also learned that sometimes the wait is worth the reward. This book is just all lovey-dovey and gives a warm smiley feeling to the reader. I love these 2

5 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐\If there was ever a picture book, meant to rip your heart out and stomp on it, it‘s this one. But it is done in such a beautiful and loving way that this will be a very heavy contender for top book of the year and its only January. A little girl sees an old man eating alone every single day on her walk to school and one day he‘s not there. When he returns on the third day, she hast to go talk to him. Why wasn‘t he there?

LibrarianRyan Where did he go? What happened.? Turns out it was the man‘s anniversary and he explained to the young lady that he‘s not truly alone. He‘s sitting with the memories of his wife, and if you have memories of other people, you‘re never alone. But less than his home at the end, when the man once again, doesn‘t show up because he will no longer show up. But he leaves a note for the little girl to remind her that she is never truly alone. 3.5 ⭐ Going into this book blind I would‘ve thought this was a ghost story. However, it‘s a retelling for the Shining but for a much younger audience. It‘s not a strict retelling, but it‘s about the Underlook Hotel in Estes Park. It‘s about the writer who lives in that hotel with his son Danny, and the ghosts that inhabit it. It‘s also about a girl from the community who hates everything about the hotel and the young boy who has come to

LibrarianRyan interview the author on film. I loved how the author incorporated ideas of other famous hauntings as well as mining and lore from the town itself. Overall, this was a fun and interesting read, but it could have been better. I say that because the ending is depressing and leaves a bit of a bat a taste in my mouth. However, there is no blood and guts or gruesome deaths, making this book perfect for the age group. 6d

2 ⭐ This book is a DNF. I am listening to an audiobook from the publisher, and it just cannot keep my attention. It‘s a sci-fi set in Japan, but at the same time involves castle and train travel and modern society, and it just is not working together well enough to keep my attention. I am 15% of the way in and have no idea what is going on and so for me this story ends

4 ⭐This was a fun, mysterious semi-crazy read. It is very reminiscent of the Westing Game but adapted for a more mature audience. We have a girl, Avery who lives with her sister, and they are barely scraping by. Avery hustles poker in order to make sure her favorite homeless man gets breakfast, she sleeps in the car when her sister‘s boyfriend insists he must be with in the apartment, and she just found out that a man in a slick suit has been

LibrarianRyan hunting for her. It turns out that Avery is needed in Texas to bear witness to the reading of a Will that will leave her set for life if she can survive in the Hawthorne house for a year. This isn‘t a haunted house but it‘s a house full of games and mysteries and hidden staircases, it‘s also full of a disinherited family that isn‘t exactly happy that some stranger got their billions. This book is both mystery and game. It‘s got a tad bit of 6d
LibrarianRyan intrigue and a little bit of danger. It just works. It is a super-fast read that while it doesn‘t end on a cliffhanger it still ends with unanswered questions. So, my current favorite thing is that all three books are all out now, so I can continue this series. 6d

His other friends think he is a little weird, but they love the odd and colorful gifts he gives, and they really do support their friend. 3 ⭐ This book sets out with the intention of breaking stereotypes. Letting girls know that there‘s no such thing as a boys, job or a girls job and boys are in the same thing. This girl plans on being an astronaut. The story is not quite non-fiction but it‘s a little bit more than your average picture book. It talks about the concepts, but in this hopeful future looking way overall, it works not the biggest fan of the illustrations but it works

4 ⭐ This graphic novel is both heartbreaking and contemplative. Its the story of a modern family both past and present, and the difference in life between two mothers. The author gives us the true accounts of her, her mom, her dad, brother sisters, and how it correlates to the life that she lives now. This graphic memoir has been chosen as an NEA big read book for this year, and after reading it, I understand why.

4 ⭐ This is a fun holiday entry into this wildly adventurous series. 4.5 ⭐
This was so much fun. Did you know in middle school Bruce Wayne was not super yet all the other kids around him were? He was let into the school because his parents paid for it. All he to be is a vigilante. Alfred, his butler, is like no thank you. Try as he might Brucei still cannot be super enough to make his vigilante dreams come true. But with some hard work, determination, and lots of laughs, he will have the beginnings

LibrarianRyan of Batman and the character we have grown to love. We get this middle school iteration of Bruce Wayne from Stuart Gibbs. The same Stuart Gibbs, who writes the Fun Jungle, Moon Base, Alpha, and Spy School books. DC picked the perfect author to take a stab at a not super, not dark, not yet dangerous Batman. I need more books in this series right now. 6d

4⭐️ This is a simple story of one family meeting their cousins from a far off distance. This is an indigenous story from the anishinnabe people. The story is simple but the inclusion of the indigenous words and the indigenous art style is very helpful in projecting the heart of the story

4⭐️Green Lantern goes someplace it‘s never been before to the far sector. Our green lantern is new with a new type of experimental ring that she has been sent to the far sector of the universe is to help solve a murder and bring peace to 20 billion people. I went into this graphic novel with no realization it was going to be a Green Lantern story. Green Lantern was not a superhero. I grew up with and unfortunately only really have Ryan Reynolds

LibrarianRyan version to remind myself off and we all know how bad that sucked. But with MK Jennifer Hudson at the helm, this book is entertaining exciting and has a really quirky but thought-provoking concept and storyline. The story grabs your attention and keeps you flipping pages until the very end. No wonder it won a Hugo award. It deserved it. 1mo

4⭐️ Syv is the seventh snow cat Prince. We start this book with a story of the eldking who used to rule over the land. But the eldking has been missing for a long time. When syvs father passes away, a new king must take his place maybe not an eldking but a new king. The kingdom that he lives in is poor and the people are untrusting of the big cats who just want their gold. Syvs too nice to the people in the community so his six brothers come up

LibrarianRyan with a way to make him disappear. However, syv is more than what people think he is. He befriends a little girl, who turns out to be more than he ever expected. He goes on a wild and grand adventure to find the crown of the eldking and hopefully help his people. I certainly enjoyed the story even though parts of it feels a rushed. There is a big build up and then the ending is anticlimactic and very swift in coming. The artwork is amazing. It‘s 1mo
LibrarianRyan quite beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This book really makes me think about the old, sci-fi, animated movies that I grew up loving. Movies like the secrets of Nima, the animated Lord of the rings, and other things like that. I would love to see this transformed into a animated movie in the same art style that it has with a few changes to the story, but not many. Overall, this is a fantastic fantasy graphic story that while Maybe not, popula 1mo

4⭐️ This was a really fun and interesting graphic novel. Zoe has been homeschooled her entire life and is now going to school for the very first time in the middle of a semester during middle school. Zoe‘s parents are coders, and she learned from them. She developed her own app, called the cool code to help her in every day life to be a better person than she already is. But her original app is not as good or work as well as it should. ⬇️

LibrarianRyan When Zoe joins the coding club, the entire club, take it up as a project to make it better and make Zoe one of the cool kids. Zoe by complete mistake makes her own friends and learns that being cool isn‘t always what it‘s cracked up to be if you have to be someone besides yourself. This book was a lot of fun and had a great message and made coding more cool then kids might think of it otherwise. 1mo

4.5⭐️ This was a darling holiday story. Is it extremely predictable of course. What really matters is the book worth the trip and yes it is. Stella runs a small Christmas tree farm and her business is in a bit of trouble. She enters a social media contests to get more publicity and possibly win a $10,000 prize. However, she lies on her application and says that her and her longtime boyfriend bought, and run the place together. ⬇️

LibrarianRyan However, Stella does not have a longtime boyfriend. She has a long time best friend who is a boy, but not a boyfriend. With some goading from her friends, she convinces Luca to play the part of her boyfriend for a month and a half while the competition is going on. But it turns out both of these people have been pining for each other for a long time. There are obstacles that have kept them from coming together as a couple, but also kept them 1mo
LibrarianRyan as best friends. The story was sweet. It‘s got a little bit of steam but not a lot of spice but it‘s the perfect combination of romance and Christmas novel. This is full on Hallmark fun even though it‘s not from Hallmark. This book is just one of three in the series, but it was nice to start off with a Christmas story. I love this book so much that I can‘t wait to read the next two.

2⭐️ I‘m officially DN effing this book at 48%. I just can‘t take it anymore. Our main gal Ivy is jealous, semi-conniving, selfish, and a few other adjectives I can‘t think of. She‘s a screenwriter who wanted to stay in LA. She had been dating Nick since they were in eighth grade. They went from best friends to boyfriends to lovers to broken up. She was planning on asking Nick to stay in California with her while she became a script writer but⬇️

LibrarianRyan Nick had a family in a winery back where they both grew up in New York. So eventually after college they split. Ivy didn‘t take it well, and wrote her first screen play when Mary met Joseph about the relationship. However, she killed off Joseph in her script. The real Nick didn‘t die. He‘s back at his winery. Now it‘s five years later and Ivy, who is dating Drew the producer, is finally getting her film made. It‘s being made in her hometown. This 1mo
LibrarianRyan sets out to be a fun summer but Christmasy romcom. They‘re making a Christmas kind of movie in July but it just doesn‘t work for me. Ivy really really annoys me. She‘s dating Drew but tries to make Nick jealous by kissing Drew and just know thank you. She‘s constantly comparing her current boyfriend Drew to Nick. It‘s just it‘s annoying. Nick‘s character I don‘t mind so much. Does he start dating the movie start playing ivy? I don‘t know if you‘ 1mo
LibrarianRyan say dating but at least hanging out and the movie star is a little forward. There are times when things are supposed to seem steamy, and they come off more raunchy. In general I did not like this. I am not enjoying it. I‘ve given it 50% and I just don‘t want to listen to another 5 1/2 hours. That‘s the other thing this story is long. Every character has to have a backstory with a love interest and get their own mini story within the story. I would 1mo
LibrarianRyan rather those all been short Novelas and this had been shortened up. It‘s been over five hours And I love the village in the town and all the side characters but we don‘t need so much about them. This review is embargoed until Harper Collins Publishers End the Strike!

julesG What's going on? What did I miss? 2mo
LibrarianRyan @julesG The Workers at Harper Collins Publishers have been on strike for over a month. HPC won't even come to the table. The workers are asking for 3 main things: wages in line of where they are required to work and live (NYC), diversity initiatives, and I am blanking on the 3rd one. There are lots of authors who have joined their side. This strike could set the norms for the rest of the industry since they are the only unionized company. ⬇ 2mo
LibrarianRyan the striking workers have not asked people to stop buying books because in the long run that hurts the authors and makes their jobs harder. What they asked of the public is to no review HPC titles (in any format or imprint) until the strike is over. Once the strike is over then post reviews giving HPC a windfall of good news.

It's pretty bad. There is supposed to be a pretty big demonstration today. i believe the writer or Babel and Poppy

LibrarianRyan war are supposed to do book signings at the strike line to benefit the strike fun. HPC says it's negotiating but so far all they have put out is that the union is being unreasonable in it's demands. Most staffers for HPC make between $45-$55,000 USD. That is not enough to live on in NYC. But at the same time the company has publicized that they want to buy Simon and Schuster now that the Feds have blocked the PRH acquisition. 2mo
LibrarianRyan Odds are this strike will go into the new year. The HPC union even purposefully scheduled the strike during the slow part of the year to make things easer for HPC and still they are being treated like poo. 2mo

3 ⭐ When this book starts out, it‘s almost like a holiday take on Schitts creek. Our main character, Matthew Prince is a New York socialite, who just bought an island with his parents money. His punishment is to be shipped off to the country to stay with his grandparents who don‘t come from money and won‘t take it, to keep his spending habits under wraps. Matthew Prince very much echoes David from Schitts creek: that rich preppy fish ⬇

LibrarianRyan out of water type person. However, I like David! Matthew Prince is really hard to like for the first half of this book. He has the spoiled rich kid complex, and it‘s annoying. He also goes out of their way to point out that it‘s his parents‘ actions that have made him the way he is and all of his actions have been to get their attention. That may be the case, but it doesn‘t mean it‘s enjoyable to read. I really do like the love interest Hector in 2mo
LibrarianRyan this male/male romance and I do think they make a cute couple. Once again, it feels resoundingly like shits creek. This doesn‘t feel new or fresh. And while the title goes with the story, the Muppets Christmas, Carol comes up frequently. This does feel more like a retelling of a Christmas Carol then it does the Grinch. Matthew at one point in time does call himself the grinch but I guess you can see his heart growing or maybe it‘s just his eyes ar 2mo
LibrarianRyan opened but… I just wanted to like this one more than I did. It‘s very choppy. I love the town I love the grandparents. I love the side characters. I just really do not like Matthew prince. I do eventually feel for him and I‘m happy for him, but he‘s just so not for me. 2mo

LibrarianRyan This is a love story, it does work, however, it feels extremely Y a. There is nothing wrong with YA romance. I happen to really like them but this does not feel right. Why a romance? I am glad the author repetitively reminded you that they are both in their early 20s because one‘s graduating college and the other one hasn‘t been to school except for they the few months at New York University. This book is steamy, it‘s not spicy. I think if the 2mo
LibrarianRyan author wants to write steam and spice, they need to read more of it. The action in this book was bland more like a humidifier than an actual steam. I give the author credit for trying, but they need a bit more practice. Overall, this was a fun book and maybe I would like it if Hallmark turned it into a movie but right now it feels more like a Netflix holiday movie then a Hallmark one. 2mo

LibrarianRyan @Trashcanman you too. is it snowing yet? 2mo
Trashcanman @LibrarianRyan in the mountains but not where I live. How about you 2mo
LibrarianRyan @Trashcanman 4 days of rain. I have a private lake in my driveway. You can almost swim in it. It was supposed to be snow, but it's just too warm. 2mo
Laughterhp Hmm my library hold came in for this one. I started it and said to myself, “I don‘t think I can read a whole book with this guy” and put it down. I‘m wondering if it‘s not even worth my time because I have no desire to pick it back up. 2mo
LibrarianRyan @Laughterhp It gets better but at way to long. And it was not worth it. If it wasn't an audiobook for me I would not have finished it. I have a print copy compliments of the publisher, but I guarantee it would have been a DNF if I was reading it in print. Go with your gut. 2mo
Laughterhp Yeah, I have the ebook, so no speeding through that! 2mo

4 ⭐ Narwhal and Jelly her back just in time for Halloween. Narwhal is so excited about the costume and the scary stuff and what he wants to be. He can‘t decide should he be a ghost, a vampire, movie star, who knows! However, Jelly does not like the scary stuff and dreads Halloween. But when a monster threatens his friend, he‘s going to put on his super cape and put his fears behind him. Just like all the Narwhal books, these are super fun.

LibrarianRyan They are for early readers, and they always make one laugh and smile. Their simplicity is what makes them memorable and a pleasure to read. 2mo

Santa and My Five Wishes | Omotayo Madojutimi

Mehso-so

3 ⭐ From the beginning, it is very obviously this book is about wanting time with family. Our main character has five Christmas wishes she will not share with anybody but Santa. We see her and her mom progressing about their day and mom gets a call from dad. Dad comes home from the military just in time for Christmas. As a former navy brat, I understand the sentiment behind this book. There were years we spent without my dad at Christmas and with

LibrarianRyan and places with no family and only friends. In general, I like this book but I think it‘s niche, it be great at a base library but at the same time for the kids that don‘t get dad walking through the door on Christmas Day, it could be sad and heartbreaking. But because it‘s one of the only books dealing with it subject, it will probably stay around for a while. 2mo

4 ⭐ Sometimes you read books you never thought you would read and that is the case with Blue Pills. Based solely on the cover, I would never have gravitated to this title, but I am glad I found it and that I have read it. The reading challenge, Booked2022 challenged you to read a book where the protagonist is HIV positive or has aids. What I love about this book is it shows a romance between someone who is HIV positive and someone who is not,

LibrarianRyan and how they change each other‘s world. This is subtitled a positive love story and it is exactly that. It never looks at the downsides. It addresses them, but it‘s not the main thing. It‘s about the relationship, in finding the good things among the scary things. This book quietly screams of hope and joy and was not what I was expecting at all. Even though it is 22 years old it‘s still entirely relevant and a fantastic read whether you need to f 2mo

The Christmas Clash | Suzanne Park

3.5 ⭐ This is a fun and cute read. It is a YA romcom. While it is set at Christmas, this book could be placed at any other time and the story would still be the same. I think selling it at Christmas is more of a marketing ploy, then integral to the story. This story is about two teenagers, whose families do not get along. It‘s not quite a Hatfield and McCoy type thing, but there is a business deal gone wrong decades ago. ⬇

LibrarianRyan These two teenagers have been raised very similarly. They have both been raised in the food court of the mall where both their parents‘ run restaurants. However, malls are a thing of the past and many are closing down, disappearing, being torn down, etc. and this mall is no exception. However, these two teens are going to find a way to save the family business and save the mall. This book was a bit of a slow start. It sets out to make you think it 2mo
LibrarianRyan it‘s going to be an enemies to lovers trope and it‘s not. This book is one that many will read for the holiday cover and title, but it will be a flash in the pan that is not found on library shelves in a few years. Overall, I did like it, but I would‘ve taken the Christmas out of it and set it at a different time. Say the end of the school year. and in all honesty, On my Hallmark movie scale, this is pure Nickelodeon. 2mo

TieDyeDude I did wax seals back in the day when I sent more mail. Loved that touch! Thanks. 2mo
LibrarianRyan @TieDyeDude my brother needed an emergency nephew sit, so we did what I was mostly planning on doing. The oldest brother, at this point in time was outside mowing the leaves. He broke the mower when the tire exploded, but it was all good. They all had fun. Sometimes it's hard to find things Carson can easily do and enjoy. The other two are much easier. There will probably be more wax seals in their future. 2mo

I have been on Litsy for a long time. I have met some amazing people. Some of my favorites are @MrBook, and @chrissyreadit.

I see and interact with them on here, and also get random texts out of nowhere and it just makes me smile.

#winterreadathonchallenge @andrew65

Andrew65 Wish we could get Jason back 😢 2mo
LibrarianRyan @Andrew65 yeah. Apparently he was chased away. I sent him a text this summer and asked if he was okay and he was telling me about what happened and that people were saying I agreed and thought he was scum, and I was like, UHHHHH NO!. I had no idea what he was talking about since I had taken a hiatus. Still don't know exactly what went on, but he is in a good place. I just talked to him last week. 2mo

I have read this, but apparently it was before Litsy. Or maybe I just didn't review it on Litsy. No idea. It's not a bad book, but also probably not one many know about. If you are looking for a “food“ book for storytime try this one.
