An extremely compelling collection of poems, essays and speeches that tackle themes of racism and feminism. It will make you emotional and engaged with multiple issues that you and the author possibly have in common. It‘s an incredibly empowering book that, especially in Lourde‘s writing, manages to grasp the honest and intellectual issues of society. Despite not being the primary audience for the book, the writing is incredibly inspiring.

Despite some regressive stereotypes portrayed in relation to marginalized communities (especially in the prioress‘s tale) multiple stories in the book are humorous and preposterous. With a few stories exempt, this book is relatively enjoyable. However, it has become apparent to me that I would not of been able to make my way around mid to late 1300s Britain.

I believe this is one of Shakespeare‘s most criminally underrated plays. Through exploring the theme of misanthropy he creates a character that takes you on a rollercoaster of sympathy and hatred. The main character, Timon, transforms from a rich and loathsome man to a misanthrope who detests the rich/aristocracy. This leads to him eventually living out a life of loneliness and betrayal.

Candide lives a very unfortunate life which, admittedly bad as it sounds, is a very interesting one. Despite all the hardships he befalls i couldn‘t help myself from reading on. When his companions are tortured, murdered and contract STD‘s (things that indeed are not ideal) you can‘t help but wonder when do the hardships for this character stop? And essentially they just don‘t.

This book is a brilliant and somewhat intriguing story. I believe it is one of, if not the best work, produced by Thomas hardy. With multiple twists and multiple chances for a character redemption arc which penultimately fails, it most certainly is not a boring read. Instead, you end up empathizing and loathing the main character of Micheal Henchard all at the same time.

this book is absolutely beautiful captivating of the futility of youth and effect of vanity. The ending was horrifying but lured you in at the same time. The slow deterioration of the main character occurs right in front of your the readers eyes developing a sense of familiarity with the characters that can resonate on a personal level with most people. The Temptation and obsessiveness conveyed by Wilde is terrifying and magnificent.
