Read this book - so good! I walked into this knowing little about Greek mythology, so it was a brand new story with familiar characters for me. Saint captures a woman's spiritual growth so beautifully.

I enjoyed it, but I think I had greater expectations. I still love CS Lewis and was surprised that this didn't hit me harder.

Good read, though.

On this night when I am grieving and afraid, no book would have given me greater comfort or opportunity to remember the path and perspective.

This was a well written and, importantly, well-organized history. Admittedly, it took me some time to finish, but I super enjoyed the ride!

Y'all, I have NEVER abhorred, loathed, or been so bothered by a character like I have Elena Richardson. This book was such a wonderful portrait of characters and a fantastic portrayal of how complex humans and relationships roam.

But for real, Mrs. Richardson can suck it.

Good God I loved this book. I love dinosaurs and the movies, but the book is pure genius and imagery and it took me two days to finish almost 500 pages. #litsyAtoZ

#atozchallenge. I went out of order but am SO glad I did. I'm not huge into Victorian-ish literature but this was beautiful and such a surprise.

Y'all, as someone raised in the lowcountry of Beaufort, SC, and intimately familiar with Savanah, this was like a trip back home. Berendt captured the lurid gossip and socialite mentality with its balanced sense of practicality well enough for me, and his picture of each character was perfectly imagined.

lynneamch I think reading the book before I visited Savannah really enhanced my enjoyment of the city. I bought this one while I was there. 3y

What the hell, Hemingway? I finally start to get into the story halfway through and then you end it so abruptly.

It's a pick because I left happy to have read it. It took me some time to find pace, though.

@BookishMarginalia , my first book in the A-Z challenge is complete. I'm going to cleanse with some women-led history to compensate for the codependency Hemingway illustrated.

BookishMarginalia The ending sucks, doesn‘t it? 3y

This was such an awesome start to the year! The book is a written banter-filled conversation between two friends on an adventure in Scotland. It is also full of historical fact and true Scottish history. So funny.

This was a bit disappointing. I fully understand that it's difficult to focus on the woman because there just not a lot of evidence of her thoughts, if any, versus the words of men. It did pick up in the last third of the book, but it took me a while to get there. The author quotes a mountain of church and trial documents and explains a lot of the male figures. Again, I understand, but it was disappointing nonetheless.
