The Tao of Motivation
The Tao of Motivation: Inspire yourself and others | Max Landsberg
2 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
From the bestselling author of The Tao of Coaching comes a book on how to motivate and inspire others - and yourself! Motivation is much more than just a few words of praise. It is an essential skill which anyone can learn, and with which you can have an indelible, positive impact on yourself and others. Yet most of us are never taught this crucial life skill. In this book, bestselling author Max Landsberg fills that gap, providing simple tools, tips and techniques that really work. One of the key points of the book is, you cannot motivate someone else if you are not motivated yourself. Landsberg examines what it takes to motivate yourself, at work and at home, as the basis for inspiring and motivating those around you.

I'm in a rut. I don't want to read, I don't want to listen to audiobooks, I don't want to #audiowalk ...
it's a struggle to pick up my current read.
Do you think pausing it and reading something else will help? What do you do when you're in a reading slump?

BarbaraTheBibliophage Reread a favorite. Choose a genre you don't normally pick. Those are a couple of things I remember that have worked for me or been mentioned here before! 😘 8y
drokka I find that usually my reading slumps are caused by non-book related things. When that happens, and if the outside force isn't something I can't control, then I usually go for something quick,l read less often, like a short story or graphic novel where the commitment is maybe not as long. Alternatively, I watch one of my go-to films and hope it works. 8y
Suet624 Honestly, I just let my reading mind rest for a bit. We take in a lot when we read and it can be tiring for the emotions and the mind. I listen to music. Eventually I check out a meaty article in the New Yorker or Vanity Fair and I get interested in reading again. Podcasts help me rest from reading too. (edited) 8y

LauraBeth Sometimes I just take a break from reading for a few days and listen to music or binge watch a tv show. ❤️ 8y
EvieBee I catch up on my shows and take in a graphic novel or two. When in anxious, I definitely can't read so that helps take my mind off things. 8y
Yeah_I_Read I try to switch up genres, if that doesn't help I flip through channels and realize it would probably be easier to find a decent book than finding something decent on tv lol 8y
Well-ReadNeck Short books. 8y
I-read-and-eat I either pick up a new, completely different book, or a take a break from reading altogether and watch a show or go for walks or whatever. 8y
I-read-and-eat Or I pick up a magazine. Something light with short articles. And rereading an old favourite as @BarbaraTheBibliophage already mentioned 8y
Jenni_Capps That's tough.. I was in one for awhile and found that it didn't help if I tried to "force" read so I just took a break all together then when I picked up a book it was one of my favorites and reread it. Good luck! Hope you come out of it soon!! 8y
Heatheringheights Podcasts for me! 8y
Reviewsbylola Usually I try not to force it and if another book really grabs my attention, I give it a try. 8y
Hoopiefoot Don't force it. Do you have any magazines or podcasts to catch up on? TV shows you want to watch? Maybe your reading brain just needs a break. 8y
Rachbb3 I read short stories on Serial Reads. A little at a time. Then I picked a book I knew I would like because of the author. I just came out of a slump. They stink!! 8y
teebe I usually try to spend a lot of time doing something else. Watch a movie or tv series, do some art, train my dog, etc. I can go weeks without reading at all. Then I'll try to ease myself back in with short stories or graphic novels, something that doesn't require a lot of focus. Maybe re-read something. 8y
