Ended up not being too terribly behind for #potteraday after all. This is a heartbreakingly good one and I know it only gets better/worse.

This one is one of my least favourites,mainly because Harry annoys me (and the fact that he didn't even think about the mirror just breaks my heart),but it still has great moments.I love the theme of government intervining in education;Neville visiting his parents; and Harry's grief 💔
Not only of this book,but I love that Sirius transforms into a dog and that Sirius is known as the dog star, Rowling is really good with the names

Dumbledore sends Harry first to his office and then he meets him there.This chapter is just Harry as he finally has time to meet grief.

We learn the prophecy said that the one with the power to defeat Voldemort was born at the end of July,whose parents defied him thrice and that either must die at the hands of the other.It could have also meant Neville but Voldemort decided it was Harry and marked him as his equal.

Harry goes after Bellatrix trying to avenge Sirius.He tells her that the prophecy is gone and Voldemort appears,he tries to kill Harry but a statue gets in the way.Dumbledore is there and pretty cool magic starts happening.Dumbledore is such a bad ass that calls Voldemort Tom 😂🙌🏼Voldemort tries to possess Harry but when Harry thinks of Sirius his body rejects Voldemor.Fudge and other aurors come and see Voldemort is indeed back

They are surrounded by Death Eaters,it was a trap to bring Harry so he'd get the prophecy that contains the reason why Voldemort tried to kill Harry.Only Harry and Voldemort could get it.After much fighting Neville and Harry are back in the room with the archway and the veil and the Order comes.Neville smashes the prophecy without hearing it and when Dumbledore appears Bellatrix hits Sirius with a spell and he falls behind the veil.

The group use Thestrals to go to London,they enter the Ministry of Magic but there's nobody there.The Department of Mysteries has several doors that rotate as you close them.They try a few,a room with brains,one with an arch and a veil behind which you hear whispers and finally find the room with orbs that Harry dreamt about.Sirius is not there,but one of the orbs had Dark Lord and (?) Harry Potter written on it.Harry grabs the orb...

Hermione leads Harry and Umbridge to the Forest, the centaurs come and Umbridge calls them "half breeds",they attack her and while deciding what to do with "the foals" Hermione tells them they were just hoping they helped them with Umbridge.That makes them feel used and they decide to kill them but Grawp saves them.Ron, Neville,Luna and Ginny come over,having fought Malfoy and his cronies, they want to join Harry on his rescue mission

Hermione doesn't believe Sirius and Voldemort could be in the Ministry during the day and convinces Harry to contact Sirius,but Harry only talks to Kreacher who tells him that Sirius is gone.Ron, Neville,Luna,Ginny and Hermione are caught trying to help Harry.Harry tries to warn Snape without luck and when Umbridge is going to do the Cruciatus Curse on Harry to find out what he was doing, Hermione lies about a weapon for Dumbledore

During Astronomy's OWL exam the class gets distracted when Umbridge and some other 5 wizards go towards Hagrid's cabin. They attack him trying to stun him and when McGonagall goes to help him they stun her too. Harry is so tired after talking about what happened all night that he falls asleep during his History of Magic Owl and sees Voldemort performing the Cruciatus curse on Sirius and asking him to pick something up for him.

Have a lot of catch up to do with #PotterADay after a weekend away.

We find out that what has been injuring Hagrid is his giant half brother Grawp,Hagrid decided to bring him against his will because the other giants bullied him.He thinks he'll be fired and asks Harry and Hermione to continue teaching Grawp English.The centaurs are angry with Hagrid cause he helped Firenze and don't allow humans in their Forest, although they won't harm the kids.

Harry wants to talk to Sirius about what he saw in the Pensive,the twins agree to do a distraction so he can useUmbridge's office. Nothing comes out of it but "we were 15 and pricks and grew out of it".The twins get caught and leave the school.
Harry gets career advice about becoming an Auror,Umbridge doesn't think he can do it,McGonagall doesn't hold back and tells Umbridge she is not a competent teacher and her opinion doesn't matter

Fred and George decide to cause mayhem while Umbridge is headmistress and release fireworks all over the castle.Umbridge tries to find the whereabouts of Dumbledore and Sirius by giving Harry tea with some truth telling potion, but Harry just pretends to drink.Snape has to leave Occlumency and Harry looks into the Pensive and finds out that his father used to bully Snape while they were kids.Snape tells Harry never to come back again

Durinh Firenze's class he tells them that the planets foretale a wizarding war is approaching.
Dobby warns the DA meeting that Umbridge is coming.Harry is taken to Dumbledore's office,Fudge is there.Cho's friend rat them out but Hermione's jinx makes the word skeak appear on her face and she now refuses to talk.They found the list of DA members.Dumbledore says it's true he was recruiting an army and escapes before Fudge can arrest him

Harry's interview comes out and a lot of people believe him. Umbridge forbids anybody to read the Quibbler but she only makes more people read it.

Harry has another vision, Voldemort seems to know how to get the weapon now.

Umbridge fires Trelawney but Dumbledore says she can stay in the castle, he found a new Divination teacher, Firenze one of the centaurs of the Forbidden Forest, so Umbridge can't appoint a Divination teacher.

Death Eaters breakout of Azkaban,Fudge through the Daily Prophet blames it on Black,but people aren't satisfied with the explanation.Hermione asks Harry to meet her with Cho in The Three Broomsticks.When Harry mentions it in the middle of his date,Cho gets weird and jealous and starts talking about Cedric and then storms out.Harry meets Hermione,Luna and Rita Skeeter,who agrees to publish Harry's version of the events in the Quibbler

Harry is worried that when Sirius ordered Kreacher out he went further than just out of the kitchen,he disappeared for some time and seems to be checking on Harry more.Dumbledore asks Snape to teach Harry Occlumency so he can shut his mind to Voldemort,who knows the connection between their minds Mr Weasley's attack.Sirius gives Harry something to communicate with him,but Harry decides not to use it so Sirius won't risk helping him

In the hospital they see Neville visiting his parents who were tortured to insanity.His mom gives him a sweet wrapping paper as if it was a treasure,his granny tells him to throw it since he has enough to wallpaper his room,but he puts it in his pocket.This is the sweetest most heartbreaking thing in the whole series and we learn so much of Neville,I can't believe it was left out of the movie, so I'm ignoring the rest of the chapter

Dumbledore sends one of the portraits to the Ministry to raise the alert so they can find Mr Weasley.He sends the Weasleys and Harry to Sirius house before Umbridge intervenes.Harry feels the need of attacking Dumbledore when their eyes cross.

Next day they go to visit Mr Weasley in the hospital and they hear Moody, Tonks and Mr and Mrs Weasley talking about how Harry saw the attack cause he is being possessed by Voldemort

Hagrid teaches thestrals ♥️ black winged horses that only people who has seen death can see.Umbridge examines Hagrid and treats him like an idiot because he is half giant.

Harry and Cho kiss, but Cho is crying all the time because of Cedric. Hermione teaches Ron and Harry emotions 😂

Harry dreams that he is a snake that attacks Mr Weasley, he knows it happened and that he is in great danger.

So many things in just one chapter of #PotterADay

Gryffindor wins the match against Slytherin despite an awful performance by Ron, distracted by Slytherin's mocking songs.Malfoy is a sore loser so he insults the Weasley's family and Harry's mother,the twins and Harry fall for it and hit Malfoy, Umbridge with her new powers bans them from playing Quidditch for life.
Hagrid is back and tells how he met the giants but didn't convince them to join Dumbledore.He is full of bruises.

Finally caught up with #PotterADay

Dobby shows Harry the Room of Requirement,a room that appears when needed equipped with whatever you need.They use it for the first DADA meeting and called themselves Dumbledore's Army,after Fudge's fear that Dumbledore is training students as an army to take over the Ministry.

28 students decide to join the group to learn DADA.They meet in the Hog's Head,a dodgy pub and all sign a parchment signing up for the group,including Cho and Ginny's boyfriend.Ron has a very patriarchal reaction to his sister having a boyfriend.Shortly after Umbridge forbids all groups of three or more people.Hedwig is intercepted with a message from Sirius and when he is back in the chimney Umbridge hand appears trying to catch him.

The Ministry of Magic appoints Umbridge High Inquisitor and gives her powers to review teachers.She gets a bit nasty with Trelawney in Divination, but McGonagall shows her who is the boss 🙌🏼

Harry manages twice to lose his temper with Umbridge and gets landed in detention again. Hermione proposes that Harry teaches them DADA so they can learn how to fight Voldemort.

Harry sends a message to Sirius,he sees Cho in the owlery who says she believes him and thinks he is very brave.Filch interrupts trying to intercept Harry's message,he got tipped it was an order of Dungbombs.Sirius appears in the chimney to talk to Harry,he doesn't think Umbridge is a Death Eater,he offers to go to Hogsmeead, but when Harry tells him no because it's dangerous Sirius is disappointed Harry is not more like his father

Umbridge asks Harry in detention to write "I must not tell lies" with her quill, she doesn't give him ink. As Harry writes a cut appears on his hand with what he is writing to then heal. With each detention the cut takes longer to heal. At the end of the last one when Umbridge touches his hand Harry's scar hurts.

Ron is picked as the Keeper for the Gryffindor Quidditch team.

First class with Dolores,she doesn't think they should learn how to actually perform defensive spells and that the class will only be theoretical,according to her nobody is going to attack them in class. Harry loses his temper (surprise!) and starts shouting how Voldemort is back and killed Cedric. He gets detention all week with Umbridge. McGonagall asks him to be smart and control his temper. Harry can see black winged horses pulling the carriages taking them to the castle,nobody except Luna can see them.Hagrid is nowhere to be seen and there's a substitute for Care of Magical Creatures.Umbridge,that was in Harry's hearing and works for the Ministry,is the new DADA teacher.She makes an speech that implies the Ministry is interfering at Hogwarts.Harry has an argument with Seamus,him and his family believe the Daily Prophet

Ron and Hermione are Perfects,Harry is jealous and is in disbelief that Dumbledor could pick Ron over him(in my opinion either are terrible choices).Molly can't stop seeing her family and Harry dead while fighting a Boggart.

On the way to Hogwarts we meet the wonderfully unique Luna, daughter of the editor of Quibbler (a magazine full of conspiracy theories) and learn that Malfoy is another surprising choice as prefect (?)

Have a lot of catch up to do with #PotterADay

Harry is late to his disciplinary hearing cause they changed the time and place last minute.The hearing is in front of the whole Wizengamot,Fudge presiding,in the same Court where he saw the Death Eaters trials.Fudge seem to want at all cost to get Harry spelled,but Albus comes to the rescue with Mrs Figgs as witness.Harry is cleared of all charges and Dumbledore leaves without even looking at Harry.

#potteraday. Harry has his hearing and we see Fudge being ridiculous, and a small dose of Umbridge.

#potteraday. We get a glimpse into the ministry and what it‘s like to work there.

A lot of cleaning for #potteraday. Also we learn a little more about the Black family tree. Also caught a mention of a locket that they were unable to open while they were cleaning. Good thing it didn‘t actually end up in the trash.

Molly and Sirius argue about if Harry should be informed.Molly thinks he is still too young and she calls Harry one of her sons,she says Sirus forgets Harry is not James.Sirius pulls the Godfather card,Molly is outnumbered and Harry learns that Voldemort is trying to keep secret that he is back,to get a weapon and to build an army.Dumbledore is in trouble for telling people Voldemort is back and the ministry is trying to discredit him

After reading a note with the address of the Order of the Phoenix a building magically appears.Hermione and Ron try to explain Harry that Dumbledore didn't let them tell him anything.Harry shouts at them.We learn that the Order of the Phoenix is a secret society fighting against Voldemort;thatPercy doesn't talk to his family anymore because he took Fudge's side and that Harry is a joke in the newspapers for being an attention seeker.

The saga continues….

Harry receives a letter from the Ministry expelling him from Hogwarts and saying they'll go to break his wand,but Dumbledore sorts it out and they'll have a hearing instead.Dudley thinks it was Harry who attacked him, but surprisingly Petunia heard of Dementors.Vernon because his son was in danger cause Voldemort is trying to kill Harry kicks him out;Petunia receives a Howler saying "remember my last, Petunia" and she decides he stays.

Starting The Order of the Phoenix aka the one when Harry hits puberty and becomes insufferable.

Harry is angry for being left in Privet Drive not knowing what's going on,the muggle or wizarding news show no attacks.He has nightmares about the graveyard and about some corridor.One night a group of dementors attack Harry and Dudley,Harry uses his Patronus to save their lifes.A neighbour,Mrs Figgs comes,she knows Harry is a wizard

The Harry Potter books are all wonderful, but at times they give you too much information. That doesn‘t change my end feeling about it though. Beautifully done, and a true work of art. I just wish it didn‘t go in for six pages about the scenery,

#Audiosewing, poorly I might add, and Neville just tried to have a go at Draco for making fun of people who have had their brains addled by magic. Poor Neville... Umbridge has Professor Trelawney in her sights... Poor Professor Trelawney... dark days at Hogwarts indeed!

When you have name that impressive, you are bound for greatness!!!
Also September 5 is Teacher's day in India!!!

* HP5 made me WEEP when I first read it all those years ago! Now I'm more likely to cry at Book 7, but boy, 5 sent me to A Place back in '03 and I'll never forget it.

* Mary Lambert's poems made me cry unexpectedly; tears of recognition and solidarity and beauty.

* Betsy's Wedding makes me cry from sheer perfection! That ending! The final reference to the Big Hill fuses past, present, and hope for a future that slays me.

Dolores Umbridge is my pick for #unexpectedvillain . She is terrifying because let‘s face it, she is real...she exists outside of books. I‘m not afraid of ghosts or the supernatural, I‘m afraid of other humans. 😱
