You can't run Detective Alex Cross is pulled out of a family celebration and given the awful news that a beloved relative has been found brutally murdered. Alex vows to hunt down the killer, and soon learns that she was mixed up in one of Washington's wildest scenes. And she was not this killer's only victim. You can't hide The hunt for her murderer leads Alex and his girlfriend, Detective Brianna Stone, to a place where every fantasy is possible, if you have the credentials to get in. Alex and Bree are soon facing down some very important, very protected, very dangerous people in levels of society where only one thing is certain--they will do anything to keep their secrets safe. Alex Cross is your only hope to stay alive As Alex closes in on the killer, he discovers evidence that points to the unimaginable--a revelation that could rock the entire world. With the unstoppable action, unforeseeable twists, and edge-of-your-seat suspense that only a James Patterson thriller delivers, I, Alex Cross is the master of suspense at his sharpest and best.

Ok, possible #unpopularOpinion time. I put this on my #GARbingo card because I‘d never read any Patterson and thought perhaps I was being a snob about him. So I borrowed it on Libby and set out for my #audiowalk. I barely got a mile before I bailed. The writing isn‘t good, and the portrayal of violence in a sexy way (did it add to the plot to be told the victim was in a “black lace teddy?”) made me angry. So I bailed and started Frankenstein.

Samplergal I used to read Patterson on summer vacay when I was in public school it was like a smoothie. Went down easy, didn‘t make me think, and I still needed more to eat after. 😂 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Frankenstein is good! 😂 I agree, I wouldn‘t agree with a few on the list either, but everyone has different tastes I guess. (edited) 7y
saresmoore Good call. 7y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Samplergal Exactly, I have a lot of favorites, that are just fun reads, but I wouldn‘t add them on this kind of list. 7y
Pamwurtzler I‘d choose a different Alex Cross maybe - this was the first one 7y
Lcsmcat @Samplergal That‘s why I thought I could do it on audio. I like “brain candy” reads in the right circumstances. But all I could picture was some guy in a basement getting ideas about women from this and I couldn‘t go on with it. 7y
Lcsmcat @Riveted_Reader_Melissa It is a very uneven list! I wonder who they surveyed to come up with it. 7y
alisiakae I feel the same about The Alex Cross books - but I really liked Frankenstein! 7y
Chellebearss I used to love the Alex Cross books before Patterson started using a thousand ghost writers. The first ones in the series are quite good. Along Came a Spider is the first and pretty good. I loved the second Kiss the Girls. It was a great movie too 7y
CarolynM Your other choices look great, though! 7y
rachelk Oh boy, I picked this book for the same reason and I can tell by what you said that I‘m absolutely going to hate it. I think I‘m going to switch it out for something else now. 😬 7y
Lcsmcat @rachelk I would. There are too many good books in the world to waste time on the others. 7y
rachelk @Lcsmcat You‘re so right. I will read The Great Gatsby instead. 7y

Ready to jump on the #GARbingo bandwagon! Looking forward to following everyone‘s progress and hope I can come close to filling up this card. Many of these were on my mental TBR anyway - not so much the tagged book, but since we named our 11 year old Alex having zero familiarity with the James Patterson catalog and have been asked about it way too many times since (our last name is Crofts) I figured I should read that one for my son‘s sake. 😜

saresmoore 🙌 I look forward to discussing lots of these with you as we go. And I‘ll happily read your review of the James Patterson. 😬 7y
alisiakae I went through a James Patterson phase when I was younger, so I know I have read that book, but I remember nothing about it. 😂 Great selections! 7y
Christine @saresmoore Agreed re: the discussing, and 😂 re: the Patterson review!! 7y
Christine @4thhouseontheleft Haha!! I guess I‘ll be finding out what I‘ve been missing re: Patterson soon enough...😛 Thanks for organizing this, by the way - such a great idea! 7y

This is a photo of James Patterson,a book writing machine! It was my first Patterson book, and I felt a connection to Cross and his family. It turns out that the Alex Cross books are quite an extensive series, and I started somewhere closer to the later ones. It did not affect my understanding, and I would pick up another when I am in the mood for a quick crime mystery. I like that Patterson is giving 1 million dollars to independent book stores!

tpixie I love the Alex Cross series. His first ones are more intense with bad bad guys. If you can handle that, go back to the beginning! 7y

Current audio. First James Patterson. Entertaining and fast paced.

KellyK I just finished this one earlier today. 7y
DivineDiana @KellyK Did you listen to the audio too? 7y
KellyK @DivineDiana - I did. And I snagged the next one, Cross Fire to listen to next. I'm working my way through the entire series. 7y
DivineDiana @KellyK Thank you. I am liking the audio. Wanted to start from the beginning and actually thought this would be the first!😉 7y

Interesting article cataloguing the number of exclamation points, cliches, and weather openers that authors use. I'm guessing James Patterson is laughing all the way to the bank:)

DoubleLane This is really cool to look at visually 8y
tpixie Love Alex Cross! Patterson is using his former marketing skills to spit tons of books out now! He's the idea man and has a corral of writers writing for him now. I used to read the woman'smurder club books (I think the first seven),but I now mostly stick with Alex 8y

You can't go wrong with James Patterson's Alex Cross series. Have read them all and not been disappointed. Fast paced with short chapters, great for a quick easy read. I call them my comics.
