I have so many opinions. I don't really care for her writing and the way the timeline went back and forth in beginning I really disliked - all throughout the book actually it felt like she was writing about the same thing over and over again from different angles to get the most mileage out of it and it annoyed me. Other peeves included Alice the miracle baby who didn't need food or attention for 15 hours or something, the number of times ⬇️

MommyWantsToReadHerBook she mentions characters' curly hair, the one-dimensionality of the characters, everything about Julia, the depiction of depression and medication, the unrealistic, dramatic loss near the end just so it dovetails with Little Women. 2d

MommyWantsToReadHerBook I liked William and the basketball injuries parts the best. I found it readable and somehow not unenjoyable despite all my issues. I guess that says something? 2d

I really wanted to like this book, as I love music and the time period, but nothing hooked me. Then I got to the first sex scene. Yes, sex scene in under 50 pages, and not a sexy scene either. It seems like others liked the audio, so maybe I‘ll give that a try sometime 🤷🏻‍♀️

I feel like the gimmick (an actual alien reporting on the coming of age of an ace, lower middle class girl through living it) detracted from the story. It made the MCs identity uncomfortable and her v literal “dispatches” annoying rather than quirky. Sorry #tob #tob25 and I guess all the other best of lists last year but I wasn‘t here for it. #unpopularopinion

Once again, I‘m the #UnpopularOpinion 🤷🏻‍♀️ I had a difficult time connecting with Mary from the start & considered DNF early on but, kept on despite my reservations. However, after 58% I just could not do it anymore. The situation with Ned was beyond my threshold of ridiculousness🤦🏻‍♀️😂🙄.

I won‘t be carrying on with this series & it‘s also been removed from my tbr👋🏻

This is a DNF for me at around the midway point. I couldn't get into the story. The plot dragged and I didn't like either of the main characters. It was a huge disappointment for me since I normally Meghan Quinn's books. Lots of people loved this one; therefore, I am chalking it up to not my cup of tea.

GingerAntics Of the 12 stories, only 6 can be readily found independent of the book in any form. Of those 6, three are either misnamed or given the wrong location, and a fourth is heavily changed, to the point of being a different story. The final story is part of Epiphany celebrations in Italy and nothing new to Catholic school pupils who had creative religion teachers. 3mo

GingerAntics The “solstice” songs at the end are Christmas carols she changed some of the words to. The activities are slightly augmented Christmas traditions from around the world. She has sources, but even those don‘t come up for half the stories, so she‘s either changed them beyond recognition or combined multiple stories. 3mo
