A funny new novel from international bestselling author Marian Keyes about Irish beautician Stella Sweeney who falls ill, falls in love, then falls into a glamorous new life in New York City. When her dream life is threatened, will she rally to reclaim love and happiness? In her own words, Stella Sweeney is just an ordinary woman living an ordinary life with her husband and two teenage kids, working for her sister in their neighborhood beauty salon. Until one day she is struck by a serious illness, landing her in the hospital for months. After recovering, Stella finds out that her neurologist, Dr. Mannix Taylor, has compiled and self-published a memoir about her illness. Her discovery comes when she spots a photo of the finished copy in an American tabloidand its in the hands of the vice presidents wife! As her relationship with Dr. Taylor gets more complicated, Stella struggles to figure out who she was before her illness, who she is now, and who she wants to be while relocating to New York City to pursue a career as a newly minted self-help memoirist. Funny, fast-paced, and honest, Keyess latest novel is full of her trademark charm and wisdom and is sure to delight her many fans.

A rather sweet story of success and failure, triumph and despair which resonated with me far more than I expected. Stella is such a normal, likable character and I wanted everything to go right for her after such a traumatic experience. Sometimes I wanted to shake some sense into her but that was in extreme moments. This book has romance, teenagers behaving badly, sulky exes and so much promise that I couldn‘t put it down.

A fine, light read. When Stella contracts a rare disease she becomes completely paralyzed able to only blink her eyes to communicate. Romantic and familial complications ensue, and Stella must figure out how to lead her life. A bit meandering and a bit predictable, I didn‘t feel particularly for any of the characters. Wrapped up the first set of prompts for #booked2019 with this one. #setinireland

Stella is a beautician by chance who‘s terrible illness changes her life in unexpected ways, leading her to NYC and back to Dublin. Mostly, this is a fun palette cleanser, but it does get bogged down in some stereotyping about women that we really need to get past. I did enjoy reading it while in Ireland, which felt authentic.

Not the best Marian Keyes book I‘ve read but I still enjoyed it. Fairly predictable chick lit but I liked the added medical side

I read a lot of Marian Keyes years ago but this was my first read of this one. An enjoyable, easy read. Perfect for a day at the park in the sun like this one 😀

My reading material in these days.

I am on page 63 and for now it is not as promising as I thought it would be. I like Keyes and her writing that's why I chose this book in the first place, but for now it is meh.

We'll see what happens next.

I am not reading as much as I want to because I am planning my vacation for the next 2 weeks. I hope to read more while I am gone but there is no pressure. First and foremost I will enjoy my vacation.

Entertaining and funny. Nothing deep or meaningful about this book but it will entertain.

Reggie Oh wow, I haven't read her in a long time but her books used to make me laugh soo hard. The one about Racheal was my favorite. 7y

For a book that was published in 2014,and from an author who is usually quite funny and on the nose about things, this book spent a lot of time concentrating on a no-carbs fixation, having every part of your body fully waxed, wardrobe malfunctions (there was a minor meltdown over a pair of shoes that went with skirts), and Botox. I really thought I'd stepped back in time. Poor effort. No stars for this one.

I love how Marian manages to blend dark and light, drama and humor altogether perfectly. Though, as a medical student, I was little irritated with some wrong medical information, i did enjoy the book.

It's 33 degrees Celsius outside 🔥 so I'm reading in bed in my miraculously cool room.
What did I think of this book? It was okay. I didn't really connect with the characters and the story jumped around a bit too much for my taste. | ⭐️⭐️
