"Have you no conscience, sir?"
"None that I can afford."
Same, Sir Philip. Same.

Another charming regency romance from M.C. Beaton.
#Booked2020 #ReadInADay (Read in less than half a day, actually😆) That completes the Winter prompts. Round up post to follow.

My #bookspin book for this month, I do love these delightful caper/romances by MC Beaton. This one has the unassuming Mrs. Budley pretending to be the relative of a rich, incompetent marquess, except his astute, not at all incompetent nephew has inherited, throwing a wrench into the Poor Relations‘ plan to raise money. Mrs. Budley, a widow from a "good" family, gains a lonely marquess's interest, but the story is pretty light on romance. They spend time & develop an interest, but separate due to societal pressures. We then focus on the hoteliers' business opportunities, which offer financial security, but also establish them firmly as being "in trade" and no longer acceptable society. I like how Chesney ties in the commentary, especially in such a humorous way.
And now I'm on book 3, I'm officially hooked on these audiobooks.
#maybookflowers #readthisnotthat I know you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but I can't be the only one who would rather wait longer or pay more to get the more attractive cover of a book. The top row is the version of the Poor Relation Hotel series I own, the bottom row I'd be a little embarrassed to be seen reading! 😄
