The Girl at the Lion D'Or | 
so-soReading as preparation for finally getting to Birdsong (which will fill one of my challenge slots next year!).
It‘s a so-so because I didn‘t really get pulled in by the story, didn‘t really like any of the characters either....
But the writing is beautiful and you can read a sentence a few times just to admire how it is written.

This one even though part of the 'French trilogy' (ends with Charlotte Grey) was just so blah so don't let it put you off Birdsong or any other of his books ( On Green Dolphin street is also very good) Enjoy Birdsong when you do eventually get to it 😀😀😀😀📚📖 6y

TrishB @Birdsong28 I‘m going to read for ‘Soldiers Story‘ prompt for a challenge. This hadn‘t put me off cos his writing is wonderful anyway! I will get to it 😁 6y
Birdsong28 @andrew65 I wouldn't bother reading this as even though the writing is beautiful it was just so hard to read after awhile as nothing really happens and chronologically speaking this should be read after Birdsong as it's after WW1 but for some reason it's the first in the series! 📚📖 6y
